Findings:
Total number of students who sat for the exam for 4 Gugliemo Marconi were 20. None of students
scored A+ or A. 9 students scored A- with the percentage of 45%. Meanwhile, 2 students scored
B+ and B with the percentage of 10%. Students who scored C+, C and D were 1 with the
percentage 5%. Only 4 students scored E with the percentage of 20%. None of the students failed
the paper. The results revealed that, overall performance was an average for Senior 4 Gugliemo
Marconi. This is because the students were new to SPM format. Some students did not do well in
their essay as this section was new to them and it contributes 85 marks in total. Perhaps, it may
due to students are still new to the SPM format and higher order thinking skills. Probably, teachers
can vary their teaching methods to motivate the students to learn and explore the language which
is tailored to their needs and interests.

On the other hand, total number of students who sat for exam in 4 Andre Ampere were 31. None
of the students scored A+ and A. Among them, only 2 students scored A- with the percentage of
6.45. Meanwhile, 1 student scored B+, B, C+, and C with a percentage of 3.22. Students who
scored E 13 with the percentage of 41.9 and 7 students failed the exam. Overall, the
performances of the students were only below average probably due to time constraints where

students felt theyre still coping up with the SPM format. Moreover, higher order thinking skills were
tested in the exam and students failed to answer the questions as they were not expose to this
type of question. Besides that, students did not scored well in their essay as they were required to
do 2 essay questions in one hour 45 minutes. The weaker students were finding difficulties due to
the time constraints. Besides, some students still have poor writing and communication skills.
However, few students had scored well and have set a good benchmark.

Improvement actions:
Students should be often exposed to exercises and questions on SPM format in order for them to
get familiar. Through the revision, students can analyse and understand the format well. Teacher
should also concentrate more on section D as majority of the students only did fairly well in their
essay and literature component. Teacher should train the students to use more proverbs and
idioms in their essay as it will help them to improve their vocabulary. Teachers should also give
more exercise on higher order thinking skills. Students should also read material in English and
they should spend at least one hour a day and try to anticipate the meaning of what they read.
Besides that students should practice using dictionary as they can learn new words. Moreover,
teachers can carry out interesting activities such as flash cards and language games in the class.
Facilities like projectors, laptops should be provided as it will be very useful and helpful to conduct
the lesson.
