1. a) Explain about the present position of power in India. With valid reasons explain whether
India will face power crisis in future or not.
b) Why ash and dust handling problem is more difficult than coal handling problems in
steam power plant. [8+8]

2. a) Derive an expression for the draught produced by a chimney.


b) Describe different types of overfeed stokers. [8+8]

3. a) What are the different methods of fuel injection used in internal combustion engine
power plants.
b) Mention the advantages and disadvantages of internal combustion engine power plants

plants.

5. a) The catchment of the dam used for hydro electric station is 300km 2 . The annual rain fall
is 135cm. If 75% of the water in the dam is used for power generation at a head of 50m,
find the capacity of power plants in M.V. Assume the turbine efficiency of 90% and
generator efficiency of 95%. Neglect all other losses.
