Shandra Crowden Final Project

Growing A Vegetable Garden

Introduction
There are no happier people than plant lovers and none more generous
than those who garden.-Ernest Chinese Wilson
Gardens are simple. Gardens can be made in the backyard of a home or
in a bed. Where does gardening come from? Gardening comes from our
ancrestors many years ago. A trait has been passed from generation to
generation. George Washington may have chopped down the cherry tree;
however, we planted the seeds to grow new ones. Gardening is the practice
of growing cultivating plants.
The first and most important step in planning a garden is deciding where to
put it. It is best to place it in a location that gets plenty of sunlight; however,
some crops still can produce reasonably well in a partly shaded area. Plant
roots need air as well as water. The fun part of planning is choosing the
different vegetables. There are many varieties like tomatoes, beans,
peppers, corn, and many kinds of fruits. It is critical to keep the soil moist.
Learning these basic gardening essentials will have you growing beautiful
vegetables. Dont judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the
seeds you plant.-Robert Louis Stevenson
I think the lesson will be received very well by my intended learners. I feel
that the learners will achieve the intended outcome of the study because it
is very detailed. It gives them the knowledge of the basic skills when

3
preparing a gardening. It allows the beginners a chance to experience
growing crops and later saving money.
I think the course was very interesting to me. I learned a lot. I enjoyed
learning how to prepare designer plan for classrooms. I feel that it is still a
struggle a little for me when it comes to combining and organizing the
material. I did not feel curious about any particular part. I did however enjoy
learning the simple ways of eatablishing lesson plans.

Learner Analysis
High School Student Gardening Workshop
Contributed By: Shandra Crowden
Career Environment: Grades 9-12
The science department would like to address the importance of gardening to Johnson
High School students for the environmental week. The learners will be high school students from
grades 9 to 12. It is open to both male and female students that are impacted by enjoying the good
of working outdoors. They are influenced by their peers, parents, teachers, and community
environmental organizations. The learners have a delight for science, planting, nature, or
gardening. It is important to deliver instructions that everyone can understand and have a major
impact on the ways to help support the environment.
Most students are assumed to have some basic prior knowledge concerning the ways in
which they will be learning and the ability level for the gardening assignment. The students are all
on the same physical level, social ability, and cognitive ability to perform for the assignment.
The instructions will be displayed by home study, power point, and video led by myself.
The learners are expected to have high motivation and daily participation. They will also be
collecting data of their project performance.
Learners must be able to work in different locations outside and be able to use small hand
tools, lift small materials, pull grass, etc. It is anticipated that the material will be engaging and
interesting for the learners to perform well. They will also be rewarded by enhancing their
teamwork ability, and possibly extra credit on their grade. This will allow the learners to progress
for better success in life with gardening and growing plants. You will be inspired to learn many

5
different kinds of gardening techniques and tips. I believe that every student who participates will
learn something new about gardening.

Learning Assessment
Learning Objective is:
At the end of the study, the student will be able to perform the steps required to
successfully take care of a beautiful vegetable garden accurately.
The Tasks are:

Buy seeds and tools for gardening.

Locate a place to put seeds outside.
Dig holes using a hoe.
Open the seeds.
Pour seeds in each hole with hands.
Place dirt to over the seeds.
Pat dirt down to ensure seeds are fully covered.
Add water to soil.
