Dear Friends, Neighbors, Fellow Taxpayers, and Voters of Ellis County:

I have proudly, and gratefully, served as your judge of the Ellis County Court at Law
No. 1, since 2007. There is no General Election in November for this race, so the time to vote is Tuesday, March 2, 2010.
I believe that my judicial training and experience makes me the most qualified candidate, and here’s why: During my tenure
as your judge, I have presided over many civil, probate, and family law cases, some of which have included adoptions, child and
elder abuse, disputed guardianships, land condemnation cases, civil Justice Court appeals, debt-collection disputes, and
several highly-contested and complex civil and estate lawsuits. I successfully managed multiple, high profile and highly
contentious, complicated legal cases, several of which dealt with a multitude of issues impacted by state, federal, and Native
American tribal law. A handful of these cases (which involved the protection of children, potential termination of
constitutionally-protected parental rights, and parents challenging that threat) turned out to be the most contested and lengthy
Jury Trials in the history of this Court. But those CPS cases were the exception and not the norm.
I firmly believe that the future of Ellis County, as well as, that of our State and our Nation depends upon each of us facing,
and fighting, those factors and forces which undermine the integrity of the family. As a husband, father, and taxpayer of Ellis
County, I am unwavering in my belief that it is crucial that we remain committed to breaking the vicious cycles of abuse and
neglect — whenever, wherever, or however possible — so that today’s CPS children do not become tomorrow’s juvenile
delinquents, CPS parents, or convicted felons, and an inevitable financial and social burden to our community.
While some have attempted to make this race about the amount of time spent on hearings relating to abuse and neglect
cases, as well as, the amount of funds spent on attorneys who represent the children and parents in CPS-related cases, I want
you to know that our tax dollars are invested in a manner which is committed to protecting the constitutionally recognized and
protected rights of a child’s parents, while still preserving the legal rights, and promoting the best interests of each child, that
come before this Court.
I have an ethical and administrative obligation to embrace a long-term vision and commitment to the wise financial
management of our County’s resources. My recent efforts to efficiently manage this Court’s resources (supported by the legal
tenor of the cases filed) – during the six (6) month period from September 1, 2009 to February 1, 2010, as compared to the
same time period in 2008-2009 – have resulted in approximately $60,000.00 in savings to Ellis County taxpayers. All things
remaining the same, if the savings reported above are projected forward on an equal basis from September 1, 2009, through
the end of the next elected term (encompassing a total of five (5) years and four (4) months), taxpayers will realize a savings of
$640,000.00!
If one of the goals is for our County to have a judge who can cut or save taxpayer dollars – while continuing to serve children
and parents on a level equal to, or better than, what has existed thus far – which can then be returned to the taxpayers or made
available to the Commissioners for use in other needed areas that benefit our community, then I ask you to make the wise
choice and vote to keep me in office so that I may continue to proudly serve as your judge of County Court at Law No. 1.

Most Sincerely,
Judge Greg Wilhelm
