SHOULDICE HOSPITAL LIMITED

History
Dr. Earle Shouldice who was to found hospital.
Born on a Farm in Bruce County, Ontario.
In the years between the Two World Wars Dr. Earle Shouldice
holding a post as lecturer in anatomy at the University of Toronto.
In 1945, the Shouldice hospital only has
one person on staff, nurses and cooks. to
improve the service eventually Shouldice bought three
place and increase the number of staff.
His unique repair method improved surgical result and reduced
recovery time, quickly restoring the young recruits to physical
fitness for military training
As news of Dr. Shouldices success spread, there was a growing
demand for hernia surgery, but doctors and hospital space were
after the war and wait times for surgery were long Dr. Shouldice
responded to the problem by founding his own hospital.

Shouldice Method
Sholdice only serve patients with two types: external
type of abdominal hernias were repaired at Shouldice

possible.

Salary of full time surgeon is fixed based
on experience, plus bonus. 51% of $60
fee/patient for part-timer, and $300/day
for anesthetist.

The Facility
Rooms are not equipped with phone or TV.
Patients must travel to make a phone call,
watch TV, socialize, eat, etc.
Small rise stairways make it easieron patients
who have just completed surgery.
Carpeting makes it feel warmand
comfortable.
Patients and staff eat together in thecafeteria.
Foods are all fresh ingredients and prepared
from scratch.
