1.2CourseIntroduction
Thecourseisdesignedtointroducedecisionmakersinthemanagerialandbusinessprofessionto
modernmacroeconomictheoriesandmodels.Suchmodelsshedlightonmacroeconomicissuesthat
impingeontheperformanceofdomesticbusinessandindustrialenterprisewhichoperateina
competitiveinternationalsetting.Thelectureswillfocusonimportantcontemporarymacroeconomic
theoriesandpolicyissuesconfrontingtheAustralianandglobaleconomy.Tutorialsessionswillprovide
studentswiththeopportunitytoclarifyconceptsandtheoriesanddebateimportantmacroeconomic
policyissuesbothintheshortrunandlongruncontexts.

Studentsshouldbeawarethatsimplealgebraandelementarycalculuswillbeusedinthedevelopment
andexplanationofthevariousmacroeconomicframeworks.Althoughunderstandingcalculusisnot
amajorfeatureofthecourse,studentsshouldexpecttoseeeconomicanalysisexplainedgraphically,
algebraically,mathematicallyaswellasinwords.Studentsareexpectedtoworktowardsaformal
understandingofallofthesetechniquesandofeconomicmodelling.

ImportanceofReferencing
Completeandaccuratereferencingisessentialforacademicwriting.Therearethreemain
reasonswhyfullreferencingisessential.

plagiarismhasbeencommitted.Plagiarismistheactofmisrepresentingasonesownworkthe
ideas,interpretations,wordsorcreativeworksofanotherandiscoveredbytheUniversitys
StudentIntegrityandMisconductPolicy.1.ThepenaltyforplagiarismunderthePolicycan
rangefromzeromarksfortheassessmentitemtocancellationofcreditforthecourse.

orconceptsthathavebeenpresented.Thisisespeciallyimportantinacademicwritingwhere

cited.Then,afterthosefollowuppapershavebeenreadtheresearchercancontinuethe
searchtrailbytrackingdownmorereferencescitedinthosefollowuppapers,andsoon.This
isknownasabibliographicalchain.Thisresearchisdifficultifnotimpossibletocompleteif
papersarenotfullyandaccuratelyreferenced.
3. Thirdly,referencingisimportantasitaddscredibilitytotheargumentthatyouarepresenting.
Ifanargumentistohaveanycredibilityitmustbesupportedbyevidenceandthatevidence
mustbereferenced.
