Parker Bohn III Wins Treasure Island Resort Open

WELCH, Minn. (July 22, 2015) - In a
title match featuring two PBA Hall of
Fame players with a combined 71 titles
on the PBA Tour, Parker Bohn III of
Jackson, N.J., defeated Pete Weber of
St. Ann, Mo., to win the PBA50
Treasure Island Resort & Casino Open
presented by Roto Grip notching his
second PBA50 Tour title of the season.
Bohn, who solidified his position as a
contender for PBA50 Player of the Year,
defeated 37-time PBA Tour winner
Weber, 259-238, in the championship
match which was also his third career
PBA50 Tour title.

Special Olympian Ryan Musciotto 300-813 at Montvale Lanes

MONTVALE, NJ Ryan Musciotto
rolled his second 300 game adding
games of 269 and 244 for his first 800
series. Ryan bowls for Core Four (a
Special Olympic local training program) in the Friday Night Early
Mixed League at Montvale Lanes.
Ryan started bowling at age 12 in
Special Olympics with the King Pins.
In those early days, his Mom would

cross her fingers hoping he would

break 100 so he wouldnt be discouraged. Soon he joined a USBC sanctioned mixed league upgrading his
equipment, picking up tips, and
improving his technique along the
way. Now 14 years later in this years
Special Olympics Spring Sports
Festival, his entering average was
206. At the States, he bowled a 735

scratch series for his Unified team

and finished the season with a 216
average. He also shot his third perfect
game at Parkway Lanes and another
800 series (813, identical to his first
one). The icing on the cake is that he
qualified for and received his PBA
card this year. Ryan hopes to try his
luck in upcoming regional events.

Stefanie Johnson Dominates PWBA

Wichita Open to Claim First Title

WICHITA, Kan. - Stefanie
Johnson of Grand Prairie, Texas,
dominated
the
Professional
Women's Bowling Association
Wichita Open, blasting the field in
match play and taking the title in
the stepladder finals.
Johnson, an 11-time Team USA
member, defeated Kelly Kulick of
Union, New Jersey, 247-221, in
the championship match at
Northrock Lanes to win her first
career PWBA title.
Needing a mark and good count
in the final frame, Johnson stepped
up and delivered a clutch strike to
lock up the win.
"After I threw that strike, I was
holding back the tears because I
knew I still had to make a couple
more shots," said Johnson, who
was the runner-up at the PWBA
Lubbock Sports Open. "These are
the moments you prepare for and
it's amazing to make a good shot
when you need one."
Johnson relished the opportunity
to be among the first group of

champions since the PWBA Tour

relaunched this year thanks to support from the bowling industry.
"This is surreal," Johnson said.
"This is my generation's tour and
to already have a title is incredible.
I'm just so excited to have this
opportunity."
Leading up to the stepladder
finals, the top 16 players bowled
16 games of round-robin match
play and Johnson dominated the
competition. She went 14-2 in her
matches and averaged 234 over
the 16 games to earn the top seed
by 359 pins.
Kulick entered the stepladder
finals as the No. 3 seed and won
her opening match against amateur
Shannon Sellens of Copiague,
New York, 246-172, before defeating Latvia's Diana Zavjalova, 216206, in the semifinal.
Johnson earned $10,000 for the
title and a spot in the season-ending PWBA Tour Championship
presented by GoBowling.com,
which will be contested in
Arlington, Texas, in September.

CHINAS PBA PIONEERS LEAGUE

CONTINUES TO PURSUE PBA STATUS
The Longmarch PBA Pioneers League in China is currently in its fifth
season of working to develop players to PBA membership eligibility status. The PBA Pioneers League program involves rigorous three-day, 12games-a-day qualifying events, and requires players to average at least
200 in order to meet the PBAs minimum eligibility requirement before
applying for membership.
Longmarch Bowling owner Frank Zhao, who founded the PBA league
program, said 26 bowlers from all parts of China are competing in the
current session, which got underway following a Brunswick-sponsored
visit to China by PBA Tour champion Sean Rash, PBA Tour Reps Chuck
Gardner and Pat Mitchell for a series of clinics, pro-ams and exhibitions.
Representatives of the Pioneers league program will travel to Reno in
December to compete in the GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling VII,
following in the footsteps of the first delegation of Chinese bowlers ever
to compete in the WSOB last fall at South Point in Las Vegas.
Zhao also said it appears representatives of the China Bowling
Association and the China Sport Bureau will join the Chinese PBA
members in Reno this year as the worlds largest nation continues to pursue training and education for its emerging bowling programs.

Craig Pezzano of Clifton, NJ,

the son of famed bowling writer
Chuck Pezzano of Clifton, passed
away suddenly, on August 10,
2015 at the age of 57.
Born in Paterson, Craig was a
lifelong resident of Clifton. He
was the owner of Pezzano's Pro
Shop located within Van Houten
Lanes for 25 years. He had also
been employed by Van Houten
Lanes for many years.
Craig had been a Tournament
Assistant with the Professional
Bowlers Association. He also
enjoyed various hobbies including
photography and building models.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles D. Pezzano on Jan.
23, 2015 and his mother, Lila (nee
Grosser) Pezzano.
Survivors include: three brothers, Chuck Pezzano and his wife
Linda of Hawthorne, NJ, Curt
Pezzano and his wife Diane of
Stevensville, MD and Clay
Pezzano of Clifton; his niece and
nephews, Amanda, Jarod and
Jaden; and his grand-niece,
Cortana.

Shannon Pluhowsky Wins

Singles Gold at Pan Am Games

TORONTO Team USAs
Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton,
Ohio, captured the gold medal in
womens singles, and Liz Johnson
of Cheektowaga, New York, and
Devin Bidwell of Wichita, Kansas,
each earned bronze in the final
bowling event of the Pan
American Games.
Pluhowsky topped Aumi Guerra
of the Dominican Republic in the
title match, 223-212, to earn her
second Pan American Games singles title. She also won the title at
the 2003 event.
Just be able to pull it together
I didnt bowl great all week, I
had my ups and downs,
Pluhowsky said. I kind of figured
it out in position round, I was
going to throw the same ball on
both lanes. And it worked.
Pluhowsky started match play in
fifth, but had games of 224, 206
and 225 to quickly move into second behind Johnson, and the U.S.
teammates would hold those spots
to reach the semifinals.
That was the goal, to be 1-2 or
1-3 so we didnt have to bowl each
other
in
the
semifinals,
Pluhowsky said. Were very good
friends and I was excited to come
here with her. To come here with
one of your friends, be able to win
a medal, and represent our country, it was awesome.
Bidwell, competing in his first
international competition for
Team USA, finished third in qualifying and faced eventual singles
champion Marcelo Suartz of
Brazil in the semifinals. Bidwell
fought back after open frames in
the fourth and fifth, but couldnt
catch Suartz, falling 202-182.
I was busy trying to breathe,
Bidwell said about closing the gap
late in the match. That was a
good match and taught me something. This whole week has been
humbling. I expected it to be, and
it was a lot cooler than I expected.
It was cool to have the opportunity and to have a couple of good
days of bowling. I hope there are

more events like this I can have an

opportunity to compete in.
Pluhowsky reached the title
match with a 214-212 victory over
Colombias Rocio Restrepo. In the
other semifinal, Johnson missed a
10 pin in the first frame, had a split
in the third and could not catch
Guerra, who would win 258-181.
I was fortunate to still be in the
lead (after match play), Johnson
said. I popped a couple of decent
games at the end to stay in first.
With the top-four bracket you
never know. I didnt make the
shots I wanted to during the
match. Its tough when you start
with a missed 10 pin.
The mens top qualifier also was
knocked out in the semifinal
round. Canadas Dan MacLelland
fell to Venezuelas Amleto
Monacelli, 187-178. Suartz would
top Monacelli, the 53-year-old
USBC Hall of Famer, 201-189, in
the title match.
Tommy Jones of Simpsonville,
South Carolina, fought through a
tight back issue all day and gave
himself a shot at reaching the
semifinals by closing with games
of 235 and 246. But Monacelli had
games of 226 and 218 to keep
Jones out of the semifinal round
by 10 pins.
Amleto bowled a good game
the last game, Jones said. The
split he made, you make two out
of a hundred. Thats why hes a
hall of famer.
Team USA has won 21 of a possible 32 gold medals, seven silver
medals and six bronze medals in
bowling in Pan American Games
history.

TORONTO The United States
picked up two medals in the doubles bowling competition at the
Pan American Games as the Team
USA women claimed the silver
medal, while the mens team needed a mark in its final frame to earn
the bronze.
Team USAs Liz Johnson of
Cheektowaga, New York, and
Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton,
Ohio, could not catch the steady
Colombian team of Clara Guerrero
and Rocio Restrepo, who combined for a pinfall total of 5,074 for
the 12 games. Johnson and
Pluhowsky finished 149 pins back
with a 4,925 total, while Venezuela
shot 4,819.
It had its ups and downs again,
Pluhowsky said of the teams day.
We played the wrong part of the
lane too long. The one game where
we both shot 180, we were searching.
Colombia, meanwhile, was
steadily increasing its lead.
Theyre great bowlers and they
just bowled phenomenal today,

Johnson said. We started out well

I got caught up staying a little
further right than I wanted to and
second-guessing myself. Once we
moved in, it was a better reaction
but we had a lot of holes today.
Canada sprinted away from the
mens field, posting a 5,607 total to
top second-place Colombia by 318
pins. Dan MacLelland shot 815 in
the first three games, and Francois
Lavoie had the first 300 game in
the Pan American Games to lead
Canada.
The U.S. duo of Devin Bidwell of
Wichita, Kansas, and Tommy Jones
of Simpsonville, South Carolina,
who had dropped to fifth after nine
games, pulled within three pins of
third-place Mexico heading into
the final game.
Bidwell rolled a 245 game, but
Jones still needed to mark in the
final frame, on a pair where he had
thrown five splits in the first eight
frames. Jones stepped up and
buried the first two shots to push
Team USA into third with a 5,203
total, 22 pins ahead of Mexico.

Jones, who finished with a 164. I
actually asked coach on the fill shot
if I could try something different
just for my own sanity. This game
is very frustrating, and thats one
thing that makes it great.
Bidwell said winning bronze in
his first international competition
with Team USA was oddly satisfying.
We didnt come here for bronze,
but that last pair ... Im glad we got
on the podium, Bidwell said.
For the U.S. women, Johnson had
a record-tying 299 game, leaving a
10 pin on her last shot. She tied the
mark set by Tennelle Milligan, the
Team USA High Performance
Manager, at the 2007 Pan
American Games.
I didnt think it was a bad shot,
Johnson said of her final roll. I got
a little bit in, but that shot I probably got it in the most of the 12
shots. It went kind of flat.
