Aerobics at Launch
The Aerobics program at LPPS began back in 2008 and continues to grow every year. At first 14 students
were involved in the program. This number has now grown to 76, which equates to 46% of students in
grades 3-6 participating. In our program, teams of competitors are taught aerobics routines, set to
choreography and performed to music. These teams compete in an Australia wide contest 'Schoolaerobics' - which now encompasses several thousand competitors each year. We are
very proud of all our teams' performances over the years with teams representing LPPS at nationals every year since 2009. The
success of our aerobics program can be attributed to Miss Nymans passion for coaching and talent for choreography of routines.
Miss Nyman has been keenly assisted by Miss Fraser, Mrs Kemp and Miss Mackie.
Training for aerobics competitions at this level takes much perseverance, resilience and practise to become a team of aerobics
champions. This exciting program provides competitors with a great range of performance experiences, such as public speaking
and performing to large audiences with poise and positivity. It also aims to improve self-confidence, fitness, flexibility, strength and
above all team spirit.
Silver Medals - Congratulations
This year, two teams, Secret Weapon and Ultra Sparks, competed in the Nationals at the Gold Coast. It is very exciting to
announce that both teams, received silver medals. What is even more exciting is the way that all children involved
represented our school in such a responsible, respectful and positive way. A big thanks to the coaches Candice Nyman, Lara
Mackie and Jacinta Kemp, school community, parents and sponsors for continuing to support this wonderful program.

Earn and Learn

Earn and Learn is a hands on financial awareness program which children in years 5/6 do as part of their Maths curriculum. This program sees students operate in a way similar to a small
town or community.
Initially, students receive a base weekly payment for the work they complete. Students who undertake leadership roles or have extra responsibilities within the classroom are able to receive
additional payments. Such responsibilities might include taking the lunch orders to the canteen, cleaning the class library, setting up the computers, turning on and off the lights when we
enter and leave our room.
Students also pay tax through the money they earn, make weekly rent payments for their seat and locker, take out insurance policies against forgetting their homework or receving an injury,
contribute to superannuation and make purchases. Students operate businesses within the classroom and organise their finances through credit, debit and cheque accounts at our class bank.
The 5/6 building has been a hive of activity with budding entrepreneurs selling their wares! Children in other grades have had the chance to visit and purchase goods and services. It has
been great to see the students highly motivated and engaged in their learning!

Camps, Sports & Excursions Fund (CSEF)

**Applications can now be lodged at LPPS until Friday, 18th September, 2015**
The Victorian Government recently released information about the Camp, Sports & Excursions Fund to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and

school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child. The annual CSEF amount per primary school student is
$125. If you believe that you may be eligible for the CSEF (and you havent already applied this year) you will need to contact the school to obtain and lodge a CSEF
application by the Friday, 18th September, 2015. More information about the CSEF and can be found at www.education.vic.gov.au/csef

National Book Week

Each year, schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week
celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. This years
theme is Books light up our world. Shortlisted books are available at:
http://cbca.org.au/ShortList-2015.htm
To celebrate Childrens Book Week and National Literacy and Numeracy Week (31 st August-5th September), all students are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite
book character on Wednesday, 2nd September. We also encourage everyone to bring
along their favourite book to share with the grade.
This year Book Week directly follows The Reading Hour. The Reading Hour asks parents to simply share a book with your child for 10minutes a day, an hour a week and give
them the gift of reading. We hope that you embrace this opportunity to join our school
in celebrating the joy of reading.

1000 Books Before School

1000 Books Before School is a program which encourages
parents and carers to read 1000 books with their children
before they begin school.

Reading to preschool-aged children has been shown to develop early literacy by building vocabulary and language skills essential for learning to read.
Given that the average picture book takes just five minutes to read, spend just 15 minutes
reading three books with your child each day and you will read 1000 books in a year.
Even if you only have five minutes a day, you can reach that milestone in three years.
For more information on the benefits of reading to your child from a young age, as well
as other parenting information, visit the recommended sites below:

There are a lot of fun and challenges in Japanese this term. Grade 5/6 students participated in
the state wide Pencil Calligraphy competition. Our 1/2s and 3/4s have done reading/writing
Hiragana. Our prep children enjoy singing songs and playing a Fly swatter game on the
floor.
This term the children have been focussing on some basic gymnastics in PE
lessons. This includes balance, rolls and climbing. Sometimes we work with
a partner and sometimes on our own.

Here are some snapshots in the Japanese class.
