Last Sunday, another Body and Blood event. For the Jewish people; incredibly
shocking. As we know blood for the Jews was a difficult concept to grasp as
something good and life giving rather than something that made them unclean,
ritually dirty, excluded from the temple. So when Jesus offers his blood as life for the
world it becomes so anathema for the chosen people, so startling and 'gross' as to
be a barrier for many of them. Ultimately it will be, what will see Jesus go on the
cross and the penultimate moment of his blood for the world. We have to eat and
we have to drink.

Mass at Kularoo

Forster 4:30pm

As Ive moved around the city, I've been really struck by just how much poverty
exists here, and how much dignity is stripped away from the poor. There is nothing
pretty about being homeless and poor. Almost, every street corner has someone
with a hand written sign asking for help. The age range is surprising, with so many in
the under 30 bracket. It has an overwhelming feel to it with many walking past
without offering anything. However, in a city the size of New York, I have been
impressed with just how many people do throw a few spare coins into their
outstretched hands and cups.

Even without knowing it perhaps, all those people who are so moved enough to put
a few coins in a homeless persons cup are drinking and eating. A simple gesture of
kindness that is offered without judgement, and the generosity unmissed. They can't
change the situation of each and every one of them, big time, but for one moment
the hungry are fed, they have change for a shelter, and might have a few moments
to reflect on human kindness; someone drinks and eats of the flesh that is given as
life for the world. It's in the simple gestures that our world somehow becomes a
better place.

As you read this I will be packing up my bag and heading home. I've had a great
time. I am grateful to both Fr Bill and Fr Des for making themselves available for
supply. Without the generosity of the retired clergy, parish priests would have a
hard time getting away. So I am grateful.

In Fr. Gregs Absence

Bob Cashman has kindly offered to
lead us again in The Liturgy of the
Hours prayer this coming week in
place of some of the usual Mass
times. Therefore, morning prayer will
take place on:
th
Thursday 27 at 9am in Forster
th
Friday 28 at 9:30am in Forster
th
Saturday 29 at 9am in Tuncurry
The Liturgy of the Hours is not a
private function, but pertains to the
whole body of the Church. It
manifests the Church and has an
effect upon itWherever possible the
more important hours could be
celebrated in common at parish
churches. If the faithful come
together and unity their hearts and
voices in the Liturgy of the Hours,
they manifest the Church Celebrating
the mystery of Christ. (GILH 20-22)
As the daily prayer of the Church,
Morning or Evening Prayer would
normally be the formal parish liturgy
when Mass cannot be celebrated on a
weekday.

Unity in Diversity Sing to the

Rainbow
On Tuesday evening the 11 August,
Catholic schools of the Manning: Holy
Name Forster, St Josephs and St
Clares Taree, St Josephs Wingham,
St Josephs Gloucester and St
Josephs Bulahdelah hosted the 18th
Diocesan Special Needs Mass in Holy
Name Forster Church. Bishop Bill led
this Mass with Fr George and Deacon
Vince Ryan of Taree. Guests that

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B

joined us from our Diocese included the
Director of Education Mr Ray Collins,
representatives from the Catholic Schools
Office, other Principals, teachers and
students outside the Manning Region.
The mass highlighted that in the diversity
of students learning, we come together in
unity because we are one communion of
people in Christ. It was an evening where
all schools combined their gifts and
talents. Just as the rainbow is made up of
many beautiful colours individually, when
combined, is a whole spectrum of
amazing colour. The community were
welcomed into the hall for supper and
enjoyed some delicious marble cake and
scones made by Cushla Drakes, Bakers
Choice Taree. Thank you to the many
parishioners who joined us to celebrate
with our schools.
