Sub: Research project proposals invited by Agricultural Engineering Division of ICAR for
funding under ICAR Extramural Research Projectsreg.
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) New Delhi has launched a scheme to sponsor
and support short-term result-oriented Extramural Research Projects to resolve problems limiting
production and value addition in agriculture. The projects can be submitted by ICAR institutes, State
Governments, Agricultural and other universities, public, quasi-public and private institutions
capable of undertaking research in the identified thrust areas, and fulfilling the criteria as laid down
in the guidelines.Researchers (Professor / Principal Scientist / Associate Professor / Senior Scientist /
Assistant Professor / Scientist with Ph. D. or M. Sc.) with three years of research experience are
eligible to submit proposals. The detailed guidelines, eligibility criteria and proforma of application
for grant of extramural research projects can be downloaded from the ICAR website

Following are the thrust areas for consideration of project proposals for funding:
Application of electromagnetic waves in food processing
Automation and robotics in agriculture
On-farm bulk storage of food grains, modelling bulk storage ecosystems
Development of functional on-farm dryers for food grains based on sound engineering
principles
Controlled atmosphere storage with alternate gases in place of chemicals
Development of intelligent packaging systems for safety and sensing quality of packed foods
Extraction of valuable components from raw agricultural commodities, agricultural wastes
and food processing wastes, retaining the quality of extracts
Creation of functional or nutraceutical foods, selection of machinery and processing lines for
cottage level production of such functional or nutraceutical foods
On-farm pack houses and cool storages suitable to India specific food products and which
uses single or hybrid renewable energy sources
Mechanizing ITK based traditional processing methods and product development
Remotely controlled on-farm vehicles for various farm operations
Sensors for on-the-go measurement of soil quality parameters as an integral unit of precision
fertilizer applicator
Development of package of machines for complete mechanization of small land units of
under 1 ha
Mechanization of vegetable crop cultivation

Extraction, processing and value addition of fibres from untapped sources

Post-harvest management of natural resins and gums
Application of hybrid renewable energy for production and post production operations
Application of drones in production agriculture

Duly signed hard copies may be submitted directly to the Assistant Director General (FE)
before 05:00 pm on 01.09.2015 and not through Project Coordinators as in the guidelines. The
