Tenses: present simple and continuous, present perfect (for the reading); past simple,
past continuous, past perfect (for the speaking and writing).
Functional expressions: making suggestions; agreeing and disagreeing.
Travel vocabulary: collect somebody, boats cant sail, emergency exit, sound the fire
alarm, bad connection, adopt the emergency brace position, steering wheel, terrorist,
ask for a lift, attract someones attention.
Preparation
Make a copy of the maze cards for each pair or group of four. Cut them up into sets of
cards.
Steps
1. Make sure that the students know the vocabulary in the language box.
2. Ask students if they have ever been to England and if they have ever been on a
summer school. If so, ask them if anything went wrong. Then ask them to look at
card one.
3. Read the situation on the card with the students and check for comprehension. Ask
them to choose one of the options and to discuss their decision in pairs or groups of
four.
4. Tell the students to write down the numbers in the order that they choose them.
5. If some groups finish before others, put two together to describe their route home to
each other, imagining that the members of the other group are their parents.
6. Ask students to write a letter to an English friend about their journey home.
