My Statement of Purpose
I intend to pursue and apply for the full time basis Ph.D. Program in the Mechanical Department, Lovely
Professional University for the fall of 2015.
Academic Background
Ever since my school days, Ive been interested in theoretical and frameworks in Mathematics and Sciences,
which drive the physical world. I did make a project of Water Clock for the Inter School Science Exhibition.
Also, Ive received good percentage of marks both in my 10 th and 12th board examinations. Engineering, at this
point of time seemed as a natural extrapolation of my abilities and interests. The amazing task of moving the
world is the monopoly of energy resources, so I made Mechanical engineering my choice. I successfully cleared
the Assam Combined Entrance Examination (CEE) 2010, with a rank of 2133 in CEE, and got enrolled in the
discipline of B.Tech-M.Tech Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Thermal Engineering at Lovely
Professional University, Phagwara, India. The sole reason for admission in LPU, was due to financial assistance
in terms of scholarship provided by the university.
Undergraduate Study
Apart from the study of core Mechanical subjects in B.Tech, I was also involved in a project called Split Hybrid
Electric vehicle (SHEV) along with my colleagues for Auto Expo 2014, India. The foundation of the project was
laid on the concept of reducing pollution and less consumption of fuel. The vehicle had the ability to run both on
fuel and electricity switching vice versa depending on the urban and highway platform. Moreover, in the 5 th
semester of integrated program, I was assigned by my supervisor to guide the B.Tech students to accomplish
their capstone project called Oxygenated Fuel Assistance system (OFAS). The purpose of the project was to
study the Performance, Emission and Cost Analysis of Hero Honda Passion, with and without out assistance of
pure oxygen cylinder. And outcome of the project were very good in terms of efficiency and reduction in
pollution. However, in economic terms, it was costly.
Internship
At the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bongaigaon Refinery, India I worked as a Trainee in Central
Work Shop (CWS), Production and Utilities (P&U) and Engineering Service Department. It also involved the
phase of Planning Section and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) to aware about the flow of information to
and from the field on the activities planned and executed respectively. Also I was made aware of the 7 pillars of
TPM for improving productivity by making processes more reliable and less wasteful. The training period
helped in solidifying the basics of focused improvement, planned maintenance, initial control, education and
training, autonomous maintenance, quality maintenance and safety, hygiene & environment. The industrial
training enabled me to appreciate the various techniques developed in this field of Oil Refineries and the impact
cutting edge research has in developing better technologies.
Research
While continuing my thesis work, I have also been able to publish two research papers under the expertise
guidance of my supervisor Mr Raja Sekhar Dondapati. I am outlining below my academic contributions:
A novel approach to estimate the thermophysical properties of pure oxygen at the supercritical region
to be used in SMES, IJAER, Vol. 10,No.54, p-ISSN:0973-4562, e-ISSN: 1087-1090, June 2015, pp.
48-54
Numerical Model to Estimate the Thermo-physical Properties of Oxygen at Critical Pressure to be used
in SMES, IOSR-JMCE, e-ISSN: 2278-1684, p-ISSN: 2320-334X,Vol. 5, April 2015, pp. 07-13.
Moreover, A research paper entitled Development of correlation for thermo-physical properties of supercritical
oxygen to be used in SMES has been accepted for publication r in 4 th International Conference on Power and
Energy Systems (ICPES-2014), 21st-23rd November, 2014, Singapore.
