Introduction
The online channel is now much faster and efficient as all the information about
the resorts, their facilities, rooms, location and images are readily available for viewing
on their very own websites. Beach Resort Reservation System is a transaction
processing that has more advantages rather than a manual resort reservation. Prior to
the internet, travelers could write and telephone the hotel directory, or use a travel agent
to make a reservation. Nowadays, resorts have their own websites where anyone can
view information on prices and deals and most of the beach resorts provide good
services using online computer system. It helps to perform task in an easy way with less
time consumed and enhance the operation more efficiently, improve the service
experience as well as provide a means to access markets on a global basis. It is no
wonder that booking or having a reservation on a beach resort can now be done in a
more convenient way today.
Donnyland Beach Resort in Calapan City is currently using the manual operation
especially in terms of reservation of rooms. This scenario brings slow services the resort
offer with their customer.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES
precise, accurate and secured for the future references for it will be stored on a
computer and has a back-up of it, which is present with this literature.
According to Deanna and Fritz (2006), businesses who engaged into Electronic
Commerce (e-Commerce) have been observed to gain a competitive edge in the field of
Marketing in terms of accessibility, convenience and availability. Since the internet is
accessible by people globally, the customers are no longer limited within the vicinity of
the store. Anyone can visit the store anywhere, anytime without hassle. Just by
navigating the store, the customer can choose the products and purchase it without
going to the store directly .E-commerce proves to enhance the way usual business
transactions occur and helps lessen the time and effort consumed by the company and
customers as well. This literature shows the same significance with the system
developing by the researchers in terms of usefulness of internet. It is easy to access a
business through the help of internet.
Jeong et al. (2005) discuss the role of website quality in attracting online
bookings and empirically test their proposed model with potential lodging customers.
Authors indicate that information completeness and ease of use are important
determinants of website quality. The literature discusses the website quality which is also
part of the system Donnyland Beach Resort Online Reservation to give the Donnyland
Beach Resort a pertinent website.
Landvogt (2004) evaluated several online booking engine over 23 different
scriteria, like overall user friendliness, payment method, instant confirmation, reliability,
and invoicing function among others. These criteria present some of systems functions
and design principles discussed further in current paper. Law and Wong (2003) find the
three most important factors that contribute to the successful website, according to the
online purchases, are secure payment methods, different price ranges for products/
services, and user-friendly system. This literature is similar with the system of Donnyland
Beach Resort Online Reservation especially in terms of being secured in payment and
being user-friendly.
Online reservation systems make customers lives easier. Industries such as
travel and tourism, hotels, and food use online reservation systems. The benefits of this
system for the travelers are easily recognized and include the improved guest services
from the initial online contact, the immediacy of the reservation process, the ability to
view, select and book their choice of rooms, the instant confirmation at any hour of the
day or night every day of the year and their personal information does not go through a
third party. The hotel also benefits from this system because it requires less personnel
involvement, increases direct sales and instant purchases and improves customer
satisfaction. This system also manages guest billing, room analysis, revenue analysis as
well as distributing last minute rates to the Internet, travel agents and corporate clients.
The literature indicates the benefits of online reservation that are also the same with the
benefits of the Donnyland Beach Resort Online Reservation which the researchers are
going to develop.
Local Studies
According to Manalo and Torres (2014), the El Pueblo Rhizort has already a
website but on their website online reservation is not included thus the said resort still
uses a manual reservation. Because of this, Online Reservation System of El Pueblo
Rhizort Calapan Inc. in Mahal na Pangalan, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro is
developed. This system emphasize on improving the current manual reservation into a
more advancing one. The system also provides a more accurate and efficient
reservation process that brings immense comfort for the company. This study is very
close to what the researchers are developing which is Donnyland Beach Resort Online
Reservation wherein the goal of both systems is the same.
Richard (2010) asserts that when it comes to diversity; the business world runs
the range. From niche devices to everyday services, businesses large and small offer a
seemingly never-ending variety of products to customers and clients. Although their
products, services and office procedures vary widely, there is one thing most businesses
have in common: competition. Unless a service is completely unique and unavailable
from any other providers, businesses must continuously look for new ways to stay ahead
of the competition. Whether it is marketing, the creation of new products or services, or
added benefits for its cliente, rising above competitors can help ensure both short- and
long-term success. The thought of staying competitive can make some owners and
operators cringe, as they may believe it will cost a substantial amount of money.
However, there are many inexpensive actions a business can take to keep pace and
pass their competitors. One of these is online reservation system. This study also states
that manual operation is more difficult compared to an Online System.
Callista Hospitality is a reservations and management system for motels, lodges
and small to mid-sized hotels. It incorporates powerful, easy-to-use features which are
normally available only in high-end, expensive reservations software systems. Electronic
reservations, easy checkin/out, automatic management of online reservations and all
changes in room availability, integrated and automatic guest call logging and allocation
with user-defined margins per call type, multiple accounts per guest room, automatic
confirmation emailing, user-defined in-house charge allocation, on/off peak calendar,
complete guest history, integrated guest billing and automatic scheduled reporting for
management, statistical analysis, financial analysis and operations and much more are
all available in this innovative, inexpensive, easy-to-use system.
A fully automated
check-in wizard makes check-in fast and efficient even for the most novice user. The
online hotel reservation is the only growing section between the different methods of
reservation. The 40% of rooms in cities were reserved online in 2009 and this rate is
increasing because there is more and more online reservation system. This study
proved that website helps a lot to attract many guests because through this website,
company will be able to promote their Resort worldwide.
Mrs. Michelle Amir, co-founder and CEO, says: I am proud to say that by the
third quarter 2008 we will have succeeded in our goal to become a global hotel booking
agency. During three consecutive years our company results have shown a tremendous
annual increase of much more than 100 %.Over 2007 we boasted gross sales of over 36
million. We expect to reach 75 million in hotel reservation in 2008.The first quarter in
2008 looks promising. With over 13 million gross sales we start the year ahead of
budget. We achieved this with a mere three destinations. Therefore, with so many more
destinations, we expect our results to continue to increase significantly. We also expect
many more repeat visitors and actual bookers due to the added cities.
According to James, Puerto Paraiso Resort started to use an online reservation
in 2006. The existing system of Puerto Paraiso Resort is manual. To improve the
existing reservation system a project called Online Resort Reservation System is
made. This focuses on improving the existing reservation system of Puerto Paraiso and
making it online so that the resort can be advertised through the use of World Wide Web
and at the same time it may also help customers for making their reservation easier.
The online resort reservation system is reliable, fast and complete that provides
reservation through online. One of the objectives of Donnyland Beach Resort Online
Reservation is to provide much easier reservation than manual that proven on this study.
Foreign Studies
According to Famrose (2013), there is not enough time in a day. It is a common
complaint. Time is a commodity. Everyone can use it more extensively. As a solution to
this problem, humans created different kinds of machines and gadgets that fortunately
made people lives easy. The world transformed into a modernized life style where
computer and devices rule the everyday task of all people. Computer is one of the
greatest machines that are labor and hassle-free. Through the use of computers, it is
possible to browse the internet and search information, watch movie, and develop
websites or on line system that promotes products and services. This enables people
who are busy or from far distances to commit and do business transaction with their
clients without spending time, and effort. The Amber Kingdom Water Park and Hotel in
San Pablo, Mexico, Pampanga is experiencing problem in its information and
reservation system. On the other hand, the client also experiences difficulties in the
amber Trail manual reservation. They have to visit the place personally to see the
houses and the cottages, facilities and other areas. This is really very tiring because it
consumes a lot of time, effort and money. This is the reason why the proponents come
up with the idea of creating online information and reservation. Internet provides aid for
the businesses that is why this study was made and the proponents of Donnyland Beach
Resort Online Reservation decided to design a system.
According to Kimespejon (2012), we are living today in a fast changing world of a
technological era. People use technology to accomplish things and tasks easier, and it
provides convenience to the end user. Information technology has become an integral
part of any business that aims to reach a wider and larger network of clients. This
includes company websites, blogs, online reviews, and online reservation systems.
Online Reservation System is one technology that is widely accepted and used by many
companies. It is used by airline companies, hotels and resorts. This system allows the
customers to enjoy discounts and privileges. Using this system, customers can make
transactions at their convenience. Online reservation has several advantages for both
the owner and the customer. The owner can easily find new clients online without
spending more on printing the campaign materials and hiring sales agents. The
company can cut down on their expenses. This study shows that as time goes by the
improvement of technology increases. At the same time different companies render
services through online as their big advantage to gain more profit which is also the
purpose of the system Donnyland Beach Resort Online Reservation.
Reservation systems for the Belize Hotels serve the traveler first and the Guest
Caye Resort marketing online is the best way to make the tourist interested in coming to
Belize. Using Guest Caye, experts surfed dozens of Belize hotel websites to better
understand the various reservation systems and online sales approaches used by the
hotel owners to win business directly from travel shoppers. According to a study by
partnership titled National Travel Monitor, it is a secure online booking engine with realtime pricing availability. The study is similar to the objectives of the Donnyland Beach
Resort Online Reservation which aims to discover the resort instantly.
Definition of Terms
For better understanding of the study, the following terms are operationally
defined:
HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol). An application protocol for distributed,
collaborative, hypermedia information systems. It is also consider as the foundation of
data communication for the World Wide Web. Hypertext is structured text that uses
logically links (hyperlinks) between nodes containing text. HTTP is the protocol to
exchange or transfer hypertext.
HTML (HyperText Markup Language). The standard markup language used to
create web pages. The purpose of a web browser is to read HTML documents and
compose them into visible or audible web pages. HTML describes the structure of a
website semantically along with cues for presentation, making it a markup language
rather than a programming language. HTML elements form the building blocks of all
websites. HTML allows images and objects to be embedded and can be used to create
interactive forms. It provides a means to create structured documents by denoting
structural semantics for text such as headings, paragraphs, lists, links, quotes and other
items.
The system Online Beach Resort Reservation uses HTML especially for making
a simple form into an interactive one. Through this the researchers can generate forms
easily. This programming language supports the system especially on how it looks and
makes it presentable. Since HTML can embed images the researchers include different
images of the beach resort on their system to make it more effective.
MySQL. The world's second most widely used open source relational database
management system (RDBMS). The SQL phrase stands for Structured Query Language.
The MySQL development project has made its source code available under the terms of
the GNU General Public License, as well as under a variety of proprietary agreements.
MySQL was owned and sponsored by a single for-profit firm, the Swedish company
MySQL AB, now owned by Oracle Corporation. MySQL is a popular choice of database
for use in web applications, and is a central component of the widely used LAMP open
source web application software stack (and other 'AMP' stacks). LAMP is an acronym for
applied to any kind of XML document, including plain XML, SVG and XUL. CSS is a
cornerstone specification of the web and almost all web pages use CSS style sheets to
describe their presentation.
The researchers also use CSS along with HTML to define the look and layout of
text and other material. The researchers use CSS to separate the documentation
content to document presentation such as the layout, colors and fonts. These
programming languages help a lot to make the website engaging to attract many guests.
To have a good website and to avoid misinterpretation or confusion of the user you
should first consider if your system is presentable and user-friendly.
JavaScript is a language developed by Netscape used to provide dynamic and
interactive content on webpages. With JavaScript it is possible to communicate with
HTML, create animations, create calculators, validate forms, and more.
The JavaScript is used in developing the system. This programming system is
present in the system to add animations especially on the HOME page. This
programming language supports the system to have an interactive content.
VB.Net (Visual Basic.Net). A multi-paradigm, high level programming language,
implemented on the .NET Framework. It is an object oriented programming language. It
contains a systematic collection of classes and objects. Vb.net is a Visual Basic in .net
framework means one who knows Visual Basic then VB.NET is an extension of Visual
Basic.
The researchers use VB.Net in administration panel. This administration panel is
a desktop application thats why a programming language like VB.Net is suitable for
creating the codes.

METHODOLOGY
Functional requirements
Functional requirements are those elements should include in the system in
order to meet the necessary desires for the system. Functional requirements envisioned
the flow of the whole system. Functional requirements also capture the planned behavior
of the system. The behavior stated through the functions, tasks and services the system
require to perform.
Figure 1 presents the flow on how a customer can navigate the proposed system
Donnyland Beach Resort Online Reservation. The customers can access the HOME
menu, ROOMS menu, RESERVATIONS menu, GALLERY menu and CONTACTS menu.
Through those menus the customers has the ability to tour their selves in the Donnyland
Beach Resort. The customers can also be familiar on the background information about
the Donnyland Beach Resort.

Development Methods
M. A. Jackson (2009) a development method may be regarded as a path or a
procedure by which the developer proceed from a problem of a certain class to a
solution of a certain class. This research method are that it structures the development
decisions in a sensible way, it leads to systems that can be adapted at reasonable cost
when their specifications are changed, and it bridges the uncomfortable gap between
specification and implementation.
The Donnyland Beach Resort is currently using manual system in their services
especially in reservations. This manual way of rendering services brings inaccurate and
unreliable information. Files are not well secured because it can be misplaced anytime.
This is also a time consuming for the both employees and clients.
The proposed system promotes convenient, fast and reliable process of booking
towards the aforesaid resort. It also makes use of strict log in to access process in order
to establish a secure environment for consistent clients and potential customers. The
proposed system also provides a friendly environment that leads to easily navigation.
Requirement Specifications
This part contains user interfaces, hardware interfaces, software interfaces, and
functional requirements that the proponents used in developing the system. In this part
the proponents used the needed requirements to develop the system completely.
Software Interfaces
The researchers included the following requirements for the software interfaces.
PHP is used for generating a web page's HTML code. MySQL is essential for the
database of the system. For the use of the system the user must have internet
connection and have used of latest version of any internet browser. When it comes to
operating system the system runs in Windows XP or higher. The system may run also in
XAMPP or any kind of web server.

The administrator of the system set an account for the confidentiality of the
reservation process. Only the administrator has the authority to open this account for the
management of all the information regarding the reservation. Thus the users of this
system will never access all the details protected by password.
and the huge bridge is a great stress reliever you simply feel that youre left your cares
which behind and you have all the time for yourself and your loved ones.
The current system of the DonnyLand is the manual operation in their reservation
process. The guests need to visit the Donnyland Beach Resort in Suqui just to reserve
rooms, function hall and the bridge what they call gazebo. The guest may also contact
the resort for their reservation. The company will check if there are still available rooms.
All the information that the resort will receive from the guest will be listed on their record
book with the use of pen. After filling all the details regarding the reservation of the guest
it will be keep in a cabinet. This gathered information will be preserve or it may be loss
because it just keeps in an unsecured cabinet. Unlike the online reservation wherein the
resort will receive guarantee and sure that all the details or information about the
reservation are secured because this information will be saved in a database for the
future reference.
Figure 4 shows the diagram of the existing system which is the manual
reservation of the DonnyLand Beach Resort. The customer first inquires in the
Donnyland Beach Resort and if it is available, the customer should fill-out all the required
details for the reservation. This information will be record in the record book of the
Donnyland Beach Resort and this will be kept in a cabinet file for the future reference.
After the customer fill-out all the required information the customer will pay directly to the

Testing and Evaluation
The system was tested for its reliability and to know if this system is already
functioning effectively and to determine which part of the system needs some
refinement. This test will help the proponents to decide if the proposed system is ready
for the implementation.
The proponents are responsible to teach the persons involve on how to use the
system and its flow through oral presentation to know what the functions of each button
are. The proposed system has a user friendly interface thats why the user of the system
will not be conscious on how it works.
For some critics and evaluation the proponents will present the designed system.
This presentation will help the proponents to know the suggestions of the adviser and
other computer enthusiast for some improvement of the system.
Testing
Testing was applied for the consistency of the designed system. Through testing
the proponents was able to determine which part of the system needs some refinement.
This test will help the proponents to decide if the proposed system is functioning
accurately.
Testing Techniques
This method describes what are some techniques should the analyst are going to
use dealing with the testing of the designed system.
Unit Testing
Participants:
The proponents are involved in this part of testing technique.
Methodology:
1
This testing technique includes testing the system with the information or data
gathered to ensure that these data are all found in the system. To determine if all the
information used by the researchers are all direct and existent.
Security Testing
Participants:
The administrator tested the system if the confidentiality process for maintaining
all the important information is functioning properly.
Methodology:
Security test process examines if some features of the system are all protected
from unwanted matters. The researchers set unique identification or username and
password for some unauthorized person cant access all important and confidential
information of the resort.
Acceptance Testing
Participants:
The company tested the system by encouraging the expected guests to use the
online reservation for them to know if theres still some improvement to accomplish.
Methodology:
The feedback of the expected guest is passed on the acceptance testing of the
designed system. In this part the Donnyland Beach Resort owner will test if the proposed
system Donnyland Beach Resort Online Reservation is run successfully and serves as
an aid in maximizing their resources as well as their time and effort in giving full services
to their valued customers.
CHAPTER IV
PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA
This chapter presents the results and discussion of the methods outlined in the
previous chapter.
Coding
The researchers used the different programming languages such as PHP which
used as the server together with HTML, CSS and JavaScript while MySQL serve as the
database for the Donnyland Beach Resort Online Reservation. For the administration
panel the researchers used Visual Basic.Net framework 2.0. The system is made and
persistently developed by several testing techniques to make the system accurate and
appropriate.
Until the system was developed, the researchers used different ways to make the
system correct and will be run efficiently.
User Interface
The user interface is one of the most essential parts of any program because it
determines how easily you can make the program do what you want. A powerful
program with a poorly designed user interface has little value. Graphical user interfaces
(GUIs) that use windows, icons, and pop-up menus have become standard on personal
computers. The user interface shows on how a user can interact on the system. The
different user interfaces presented in the system displays in the following figures. Each
figure represents the discussion of different elements including on how each window
work.
Except the menus the homepage also includes the mision and vision of the

purposes like the send button which responsible for the sending of information after the
user fill-out the required fields in for the reservation. After sending all the information it
will be received by the administrator and these information will be saved on the database
for the future reference. There is also log in button for the accessing important
information and details of the resort. The log in button will direct you to the log in page

unauthorized access and to withstand malicious or inadvertent interference with its
operation the software able to withstand to any intermittent failure. The respondents
tested the functionality of the system. The respondents also evaluated the system based
on the process of reservation.
The website also has an administration panel that controls and manages the
entire system. Only the administrator has the ability to access and customize the content
of entire system.
The system was found beneficial and useful based on the results of the data
gathered from the respondents.
