OF NON-PREHEATED CNG
Universal Vortex, Inc. oers technology for nonfreeze decompression of nonpreheated CNG. The core of the technology
is the proprietary Vortex SelfHeating Pressure Reducer (VPR) a device with no moving parts.
The nonpreheated CNG introduced into the VPR through a tangential orice of a xed size undergoes pressure reduction
and subsequent energy division in the highly rotating lowpressure gas (vortex phenomenon). The originated vortex cold
and vortex hot ows coexist in the VPR low pressure chamber and then exit the VPR through a single discharge orice.
Prior to exiting the VPR, the hottest portion of the hot ow is directed to internally warm up the units inlet orice (self
heating provision), thus preventing the inlet depressurized ow freeze up.
The vortex cold and the hot ows mixing at the VPR discharge negates their temperature dierences. Therefore, the
temperature of the combined ow at the VPR discharge reects only JouleThomson temperature drop in the expanded gas.
Besides the VPR, other major components
of the Vortex PRSCNG conguration are
on/o solenoid valves, an air source or
any low grade medium heat exchanger, an
inter stage receiver accumulating the
pressure reduced gas and a ne tune
pressure regulator to maintain the desirable
delivery pressure and ow.
