CAUTION: regular enrolment implies that the student has paid the university
tuition fees and contributions due by the dates anticipated by this call for
applications. More specifically:
students intending to enrol for the FIRST YEAR of the BSc, singlecycle BSc + MSc and MSc programmes must comply with the due
dates set by the University for matriculation published in the official
channels.
students enrolling for YEARS SUBSEQUENT to the first year of the
BSc, single-cycle BSc + MSc and MSc programmes, including
students who graduate at the last graduation session of the
2011/12 academic year, must confirm their enrolment for the
2012/13 A.Y. by paying the tuition fees and contributions due no
later than 1 October 2012.
students enrolling for PhD PROGRAMMES must comply with the
dates set by the call for applications for admission to the PhD
programme and by the related Regulations.

CAUTION: The data relating to the students ISEEU and ISPEU must
reach the Financial Aid and International Mobility Service by the due
date established for the presentation of applications.
For further information on the definition of "nuclear family" for the purposes of
compiling the ISEEU/ISPEU forms for foreign students, please see Annex B to this
call for applications.
Art. 6.1 Students from particularly poor countries:
For students from particularly poor countries pursuant to Annex
C2, assessment of their financial condition may be certified by the
Italian delegation in their country of origin, which must certify that the
student does not belong to a family known to have a high
income and high social standing.
This certification may also be issued by the University in the country of
origin, if it is linked by agreements or conventions with the Politecnico
di Milano, or by Italian bodies authorised to furnish a guarantee of

financial coverage3. In this case, the body issuing this certification acts
as surety for return of the study grant and all sums received by the
student, if the benefits are revoked.

Should the grant be revoked, not only will the second instalment of the
study grant not be paid, but the student must also return a sum
equivalent to the value of any services actually used during the 2012/2013
academic year (e.g. catering and accommodation services).
The provisions concerning the revocation of benefits and minimum merit
limits to which payment of the second instalment is subjected do not
apply to handicapped students with disabilities recorded as at least 66%.

Art. 8 BONUSES
Students enrolled for the first, second and third year of BSc and single-cycle
BSc + MSc programmes may use a credit bonus to allow them to make up
any differences between the minimum number of credits required by the call for
applications and the credits effectively obtained.
The value of the bonus differs according to the year of enrolment in which the
student decides to use it. More specifically:
5 credits, if used for the first time to attain the balance of the
study grant in relation to the first year of the BSc and MSc and to
attain benefits for the second academic year;
12 credits, if used for the first time to attain benefits for the
third academic year;
15 credits, if used for the first time to attain benefits for
subsequent academic years.

Students must notify the Financial Aid and International Mobility Service
of any changes that are important for the purposes of award of financial
aid that occur after submission of the application (examples include but are
not limited to: obtaining another study grant or other financial aid, transfer to
another university, finding employment, inability to continue studies, withdrawal of
enrolment, change to students civil or financial status, etc.).

Additionally, the following students may not participate in the call for
applications:

incurs disciplinary sanctions over and above written warnings for breaches
committed with regard to the Politecnico di Milano;
following due investigation, is found to have presented an untruthful
declaration or irregular document.
Should the right be forfeited, the student must return all amounts received thus
far, including the equivalent value of any services used (e.g. catering and
accommodation services).
Art. 14 CHECKS
DECLARATIONS
ON
THE
TRUTHFUL
NATURE
OF
The Politecnico di Milano shall verify that the declarations made by students are
truthful, even subsequent to award of benefits assigned under this call
for applications, applying the rights established under current provisions of law
and specifically Italian Law no. 68/2012, art. 22 and Italian Presidential Decree
no. 445/2000, art. 71.

To this end, the Politecnico shall carry out the above checks:
In the event of false declarations, the benefits assigned will be revoked and the
sanctions envisaged by arts. 75 and 76 of Presidential Decree no. 445/2000 and
by art. 10 of Legislative Decree no. 68/2012 cit.
This is, in any case, without prejudice to the application of disciplinary sanctions
and the provisions of criminal law where the matter in question constitutes a
crime.

CHAPTER I
STUDY GRANTS

A total of 1700 grants are available for this call for applications, to be divided up
between the successful applicants as follows:

the paragraph above, from which the venue of the programme attended can be
reached every day using public transport , in no more than 90 minutes.
Should the student have already produced the rental agreement or tax
certificate, in previous academic years, and no changes have been made to
the situation that has already been certified, he/she may simply reconfirm
the data by self-certification, attaching merely a copy of the rental
agreement registration certificate to the application. The Politecnico
reserves the right to make all due checks.
The above documentation must be presented no later than:

For the purpose of determining the value of the study grant, foreign students will,
in any case, be considered as away from home, regardless of their place of
residence in Italy. This is with the exception of cases where the students nuclear
family resides in Italy.
The value of the study grants, inclusive of reimbursement of regional taxes on
financial aid and study grants, is determined by the Lombardia Region. As soon as the
sums are available, they will be published in a special supplement to this call for
applications on the www.polimi.it/borse website.
For the purpose of current legislation, citizens suffering from congenital or acquired disabilities,
including those of a progressive nature and including psychic disorders for organic or dysmetabolic
oligophrenias, mental deficiencies deriving from sensory and functional defects, who have suffered
a permanent reduction in working capacity of at least one third or, if under the age of 18 years old,
have persistent difficulties in carrying out the tasks and functions typical of their age, are
considered to be disabled persons.

Where merit points are equal, the student who has not
used his/her bonus, followed by the student with the
highest score in terms of financial situation shall be placed
first in the ranking.
In the event of continued equality, the student enrolled for
the highest programme year shall be ranked first, followed
by the youngest student.

NOTE
STUDENTS ENROLLED FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF MSc
PROGRAMMES AS FROM THE SECOND SEMESTER
Students wishing to enrol for MSc programmes as from the second semester
can apply for the award of the financial aid and study grants.
Unless otherwise specified, these students are equated to students enrolling
for MSc programmes starting in the first semester. Without prejudice to
what is specified in the paragraphs below, all provisions of this call for
applications shall in any case remain unaffected and applicable. In
particular, it is underlined that, for this category of students too, the deadline
for submitting applications is 3 September 2012.
Merit Requirements
With particular reference to merit requirements, these students must earn 29
CFUs by 10 August 2013 in order to receive the second instalment of the
study grant for the first year and, possibly, a study grant for the second year too
(a.y. 2013/2014).
For the purpose of assessing merit requirements, credits will also be considered
when obtained by students enrolling for single courses in order to acquire
the curricula integrations necessary for admission to MSc degree
programmes as from the second semester.
Students enrolling for the first year of an MSc programme as from the
second semester and for which the Degree Programme envisages for the
same semester a maximum number of CFUs LOWER than the number
of credits required by this call for applications in order to obtain
assignment of benefits for the second year, need to obtain only a number
of credits corresponding to the (lower) quantity envisaged by the Degree
Programme by 10 August 2013.

Payment terms
The study grant will be paid to successful applicants in two instalments as
follows:
A) the first instalment will be paid by 29 June 2013;
The Politecnico reserves the right to postpone payment terms for the first
instalment in the event of delays in assigning funds for study grants by the
Lombardia Regional Authorities.
B) the second instalment will be paid by 31 October 2013, after verification
that 29 CFUs have been obtained by 10 August 2013

CHAPTER II
INTERNATIONAL
MOBILITY
CONTRIBUTIONS
Art. 1 ELIGIBLE STUDENTS
Students awarded study grants for the 2012/2013 A.Y. and students who
are eligible for but have not been awarded study grants (including
students enrolled for PhD programmes) can benefit from a grant supplement
for participation in international mobility programmes.
Contributions for participation in international mobility programmes
and internships are only awarded once for each study programme
attended.
Students participating in dual degree projects run by the Politecnico di
Milano, even though they spend two academic years abroad, may apply
for the grant supplement described in this article for one academic year
only.

The contribution is 550 Euro per month for the duration of the stay abroad,
up to a maximum of 10 months.
The value of any further contributions granted with European Union funds, or
funds from other public or private parties, or following bilateral agreements
even if not Community-related - will in any case be deducted from this amount.
Students also have the right to refund of return travel costs up to a value of 150
Euro (for European countries) and up to 500 Euro (for non-European
countries).
During the whole period of their stay abroad students are expressly
prohibited from using the beneficial-rate catering service. This
prohibition remains in force even when - during a stay abroad - students return
to Italy for any reason whatsoever (e.g. to take exams, for Christmas holidays,
etc.).
The students in any case retain the right to refund of the monthly deduction for
cafeteria services in proportion to the length of their stay abroad.

CHAPTER III
DEGREE AWARDS
Art. 1 GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION
The degree award is a 1000 Euro supplement in addition to the last study
grant awarded to a student enrolled for a MSc programme or for a singlecycle BSc +MSc programme.
For the purpose of assigning this benefit, the following conditions must be met:
the student must have been awarded a study grant for the
academic year for which he/she applies for the degree
award;
the student must not have already benefited from the
degree award during his/her university career;

The call for applications for the assignment of beneficial-rate accommodation
refers to students falling into the category of "away from home students", as
defined at Art. 4 - Special Part "Study Grants" of this call for applications.

In the same way as established by the call for applications in relation to the
award of study grants, students enrolling in the first year of MSc programmes as
from the second semester, including students enrolled for single courses to
acquire curricula integrations, are "conditionally" placed at the bottom of the
eligibility rankings.
Their ranking will be made final after enrolment has been
completed and, in any case, such students shall have the right
to assignment of accommodation only if accommodation
reserved for financial aid and study grants is effectively
available.
Students enrolling for single courses to acquire curricula integrations, whilst
awaiting the possibility of enrolling in the first year of MSc programmes, may
access the residences only after all those listed in the eligibility rankings have
been housed. In this case, students must pay for accommodation at the special
rate of 300.00.
Should a student earn the right to a study grant during the year, the amount to
be deducted for accommodation will be 50% the annual deduction.

First years
A) For STUDENTS ENROLLED FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF BSc
PROGRAMMES and SINGLE-CYCLE BSc + MSc PROGRAMMES, the final
rankings will be published by 18 September 2012.
Appeals against the final decision must be presented to the competent
organisations according to the terms and procedures envisaged by current
regulations.
B) For STUDENTS ENROLLED FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF MSc
PROGRAMMES and PhD AND SPECIALISATION PROGRAMMES, the final
rankings will be published by 24 September 2012.

The adjustment will be made with payment of the second instalment of the

Students awarded study grants and eligible for, but not assigned
accommodation at beneficial-rates
Students who are awarded study grants and are eligible for, but not assigned
accommodation at beneficial rates must pay the full rate of monthly rent.
Art. 11 OBLIGATIONS

Students may not have any guests in their rooms who have not been specifically
authorised by the Politecnico di Milano (as specified in the regulations).
In the event of breach of this rule, the student will forfeit the right to
use the accommodation and will be ordered to leave the residence. A
statement will be issued to the local police authorities and the academic
authorities will be informed. This is without prejudice to any action the
may be taken by the Politecnico to obtain full compensation for any
damages suffered.

CHAPTER V
BENEFICIAL-RATE CATERING
SERVICE
Art. 1 ELIGIBLE STUDENTS
All students AWARDED STUDY GRANTS and all ELIGIBLE STUDENTS NOT
AWARDED study grants for the 2012/2013 academic year have the right to use
the catering service in accordance with the terms specified by Art. 3 below.
Pursuant to art. 9, paragraph 5, of Prime Ministerial Decree dated 09 April 2001,
a deduction will be made from the amount of the study grants paid to these
students.
The amount to be deducted will be determined subsequently by the Lombardia
Region. A special supplement to this call for applications on the
www.polimi.it/borse will be published.
PLEASE NOTE: If students do not use the catering service, they will not
have any right to refund.
If students take part in international mobility programmes, during the
whole period of their stay abroad, they are expressly prohibited from using the
beneficial-rate catering service. This prohibition remains in force even when during a stay abroad - students return to Italy for any reason whatsoever (e.g. to
take exams, for Christmas holidays, etc.). The students in any case retain the
right to refund of the monthly deduction for cafeteria services in proportion to
the length of their stay abroad.

For all students enrolled for subsequent years of BSc, single-cycle BSc +
MSc, and MSc programmes, the catering service will be available from 1
December 2012 to 30 November 2013.
For students enrolled for subsequent years of PhD programmes, the
catering service will be available from 1 January 2013 to 31 December
2013.
The catering service will be suspended for the entire month of August
2013.

Students away from home
Have the right to one meal a day from Monday to Sunday.
The daily value of the luncheon voucher is 5.00 Euro.
Local and commuting students
Have the right to one meal a day from Monday to Friday.
The daily value of the luncheon voucher is 4.50 Euro.
Loss - Theft
In the event of loss or theft of an electronic card, the student must file a signed,
written statement to this effect no later than 5 days after discovering the
loss/theft, at the Financial Aid and International Mobility Service by fax (+39
02.23994468) or e-mail (dirittoallostudio@polimi.it), or in person by visiting the
offices concerned during help desk opening hours.
All meals consumed between the date of loss or theft and the date on
which this is reported will be charged to the holder of the Electronic
Card.

the students parents not legally separated or divorced and any other dependent
children, even if not recorded as living at the same address on the official family status
certificate;
the parent receiving maintenance cheques for the student, in cases of divorce or
separation; If maintenance cheques are not received, the parent with whom the student
lives;
any parties placed in the care of the students parents.
any parties who are dependants for tax purposes of one of the members of the
nuclear family, even if not living with that member;
any brothers/sisters who, while no longer living with their original family, continue to
maintain their official residence at the same address, that is who are still included in the
official family status certificate;
Independent Students
A student constitutes his/her own nuclear family independent of his/her family of origin when
BOTH the following criteria are met:
A. RESIDENCE as recorded on the official residence certificate different from that of the
family of origin for at least the past two years. The students residence must not be in
a property owned by a member of the original nuclear family;
B. receipt for at least the past two years - of HIS/HER OWN, TAX-DECLARED
INCOME of at least 7,766 Euro per year, deriving from subordinate or any other form
of employment. For the purpose of this provision, the student must not be employed by a
member of his/her family.
In all cases where the student, although not living with his/her original family, does not meet the
criteria of independence, reference is made to the members and to the financial conditions and
assets of the original nuclear family.
Should the official family status certificate show that the independent student lives
with another person, both their incomes must be considered, even if they are not blood
relations.
Married Students
Married students always form independent nuclear families with their spouses unless they are still
officially recorded as living with their original nuclear family. In such cases, for ISEEU purposes, the nuclear
family shall consist of the husband and wife and any other persons included on the official family certificate.

Art. 4.4 Student with brothers and sisters earning income and/or owning assets
In order to take due consideration of parties bearing the onus for maintaining the student, the
income and/or assets of the students brothers and sisters who are considered part of the nuclear
family shall be used to calculate all the financial situation indicators. They shall be considered at
50%.

PLEASE NOTE: the document must clearly state the income referring to the 2011 calendar year.
Should one or more members of the nuclear family not have received any income in 2011, the
student must in any case submit a statement to this effect.
The documents needed to complete the ISEEU certification must be issued by the competent
Authorities of the State in which the income was produced and must be authenticated.
An Italian translation of the above documents drawn up in a foreign language must be attached and
certified as an exact translation of the original foreign text by the competent diplomatic or
consular representation or by an official translator.
PLEASE NOTE: Foreign students are ALSO required to state any income and assets that may be
earned/owned in Italy by his/her nuclear family8.
Should the student, for proven reasons, encounter difficulty in obtaining the documents in the country
of origin, he/she may contact the foreign consulate in Italy. In this case too, documents must be
translated and authenticated. In this case, the documents must be authenticated at the territorially
competent Prefecture, i.e. the Prefecture of the city where the foreign consulate issuing the document
is based.
