OmniTrax is the fifth generation, covert
outdoor perimeter security intrusion detection sensor that generates an invisible radar
detection field around buried sensor cables.
If an intruder disturbs the field, an alarm is
declared and the exact location of the intrusion is identified.
Targets are detected based on their
conductivity, size and movement. Smaller
targets, such as small animals, do not meet
the minimum requirements and are ignored.
OmniTrax operates through vegetation such
as grass, bushes and trees. OmniTraxs
digital processor easily filters out common
alarms caused by environmental effects such
as wind, rain, snow or blowing debris. As
a result, OmniTrax has an extremely low
False and Nuisance Alarm Rate (FAR/NAR)
and maintains a very high Probability of
Detection (Pd).

The terrain-following, volumetric detection

field is typically 1 m (3.28 ft.) high by 3
m (9.84 ft.) wide by up to 400 m (1312 ft.
or 1/4 mile) long. Systems can be standalone, or networked for long perimeters in
which sensor cables are connected together
to create a continuous perimeter. These
cables also carry alarm information and low
voltage power throughout the perimeter,
saving installation time and money. Cables
can provide bidirectional power and communications to provide full redundancy in
the event that a cable is cut or damaged.
The cables are robust enough for direct
burial in most mediums.
Once installed, the cables are completely
covert, the field is difficult to detect and site
aesthetics are left unchanged. Intruders
cannot locate, avoid or tamper with the
sensor. Combined with OmniTraxs
advanced detection capabilities, these
features result in the lowest Vulnerability to
Defeat (Vd) of any outdoor perimeter
intrusion detection sensor.

OmniTrax Ranging Buried Cable Detection Sensor

iRange Technology
Knowing exactly where an intruder
enters the perimeter is vital to assessing
the situation and initiating a response.
OmniTrax uses Senstar-Stellars iRange
technology to locate intruders with
pinpoint accuracy. Senstar-Stellar developed ranging with the launch of Guidar
in 1976 and has now further refined the
technology to locate intrusions to within
1 metre (3.3 ft.).
OmniTrax sensor calibration is simple.
Walking down the sensor cables while
in calibration mode allows the system
to automatically adjust the sensitivity
for each metre (3.3 ft.) and thus compensate for site variations. Buried cable
installation has never been so easy with
calibrated thresholding.
Each OmniTrax cable can be divided by
Universal Configuration Module (UCM)
software into Software Segments that can
have additional thresholding applied, or
segments can even be made inactive for
driveways, etc. Segments can then be
grouped by StarNeT 1000 into as many
as 50 alarm reporting zones per dual
cable processor. Segments and zones
can be changed at any time by technical
personnel.
In addition, the iRange technology has
many performance enhancing benefits
such as a more uniform detection field
with enough flexibility to work in almost
any environment. Relaxed installation
criteria allow for use of a cable plough to
reduce installation costs.
iRange makes troubleshooting easy.
Problems such as nuisance alarms can be
isolated within a metre (3.3 ft.), greatly
facilitating problem resolution and minimizing sensor downtime. With remote
sensor adjustment offered through the
UCM, support analysis can be done
remotely by our professionals, right from
our offices over secure links.

Sensor Technology

There are a number of technical

advantages to OmniTrax. The chosen
frequency band is optimum for human
detection. The variation in the size of

the port (leaky gap) with cable length

not only improves the uniformity of
the field, but also allows operation in
the widest range of soil conditions.
OmniTrax can be configured with no
buried interconnections to enhance reliability.

More affordable protection

With OmniTraxs graded, low attenuation

OC2 sensor cable and lower operating
frequency, a single processor can now
cover 800 linear metres (2625 feet, about
1/2 mile), double the length of previous
generation buried cable systems. Longer
cables mean fewer processors than any
other buried system and that means more
affordable protection.

INTEGRAL POWER AND DATA

In addition to detecting intruders,

OmniTrax cables can be used to
distribute power from a single source
to Sensor Processors, as well as collect
alarm and status data from each
Processor over Senstar-Stellar's Silver
Network for transmission to a control
and display system like StarNeT 1000.
OmniTrax cables are unique in providing
detection, power distribution and data
collection over a single secure buried
cable system. Full redundancy for both
power distribution and data collection is
also available.

OmniTrax Cable System

OmniTrax uses ported (leaky) coaxial

sensor cables to create an invisible
electromagnetic detection field. The
cables are specially designed with a gap
in the transmit cables outer conductor
which allows energy to escape and be
received by the corresponding parallel
receive cable. OmniTrax uses a coded
pulse signal technique (patent pending)
to determine the exact intrusion location,
which can identify multiple intruders
simultaneously.

Detection is based on the intruders

electrical conductivity, size and speed.
The Probability of Detection (Pd) for
an upright 35kg (77 lbs) intruder, penetrating through the detection field and
moving between 50 mm (2 in.) per
second to 8 m (26 ft.) per second is
greater than 99%, with 95% confidence.
Objects weighing less than 10kg (22 lbs)
are rejected with a statistical confidence
level of 95%. Separate sensitivity thresholds can be set on a per metre basis.
Any attempt to tamper with the cables,
the processor or its enclosure causes an
alarm. Based on 30 years of experience
with leaky cable sensors, OmniTrax
minimizes the nuisance alarms caused by
vegetation, rain, snow, hail, sandstorms,
wind, fog, temperature changes, seismic
vibration, acoustic and magnetic effects.
Cables are available in 3 configurations:
1) OC2 has its transmit and receive
cables buried in separate trenches and
can be spaced up to 2.0 metres (6.6 ft)
apart. This results in a detection field
roughly 1 m (3.3 ft) high by 3 m (9.9 ft)
wide. The actual field size will depend
on burial depth, the burial medium,
the cable separation and the threshold
settings of the sensor. The cables are
graded to extend the cables range to 400
m (1312 ft) in length, the longest offered
by any buried cable system. OC2 comes
with 30 m (98 ft) of integral lead in and
20 m (66 ft) of integral lead out cables.
The cables have factory-installed TNC
connectors so that all connections can
be made above ground to remove any
possibility of a cable splice failure underground. The cables also can be cut to fit
any application, or excess cable can be
buried or otherwise secured and turned
off through the UCM software. OC2 is
typically used in applications that allow
for longer cables (cost savings) and/or
require wider detection fields. These
cables are available in active lengths of
300 m (984 ft.) and 400 m (1312 ft.).
2) SC1 has transmit and receive cables
in a single jacket. These cables are used
in single trench or single slot applications, thus reducing installation time
and expense. The resulting detection
field is typically 1 m (3.3 ft) high and
2 m (6.6 ft) wide. The actual field size
will depend on burial depth, the burial

medium and the threshold settings of the
sensor. SC1 cables are offered in 50 m
(165 ft) lengths up to 200 m (656 ft).

UNiversal Configuration Module

3) SC2 has its transmit and receive

cables buried in separate trenches, spaced
roughly 2 m (6.6 ft) apart. This results in
a detection field that is typically 1 m (3.3
ft) high and 3 m (9.9 ft) wide. The actual
field size will depend on burial depth,
the burial medium, the cable separation
and the threshold settings of the sensor.
SC2 cables are offered in 50 m (165 ft)
lengths up to 200 m (660 ft). SC2 is typically used in applications that require
wider detection fields but do not require
the use of longer OC2 sensor cables.

Auxiliary
Device

Senstar-Stellar's Silver Network consists

of the Silver Network Manager (SNM)
software, which controls network communications and passes alarm location
and status information to a control and
display system such as StarNeT 1000.
The Network Interface Unit (NIU) is
a reliable lightning-protected interface between the SNM and the sensor
processors. Communication between
processors is via the sensor cables.
Communication to the NIU is via either
RS-422, 4-wire data cables or dual multimode fiber optic. The data signal is
completely regenerated at each processor
to avoid data degeneration and termination issues.

The Universal Configuration Module

(UCM) is an easy to use software tool
that provides real-time feedback for use
during OmniTrax calibration and setup.
The UCM runs on the Windows XP
operating system and can be used on a
personal desktop or laptop computer. It
is either connected directly to the processor using a Universal Serial Bus (USB)
interface or through Senstar-Stellars
Silver network. The UCM eliminates the
need for expensive awkward electronic
equipment, greatly reduces the configuration time and effort, and facilitates
factory support with its enhanced diagnostic tools.
