Islamic Scruples Game

Scenario 1

You recently saw somebody’s son secretly smoking. He didn’t see you and you
know his parents would be shocked to find out. You decide to have a good
gossip about him with your friend.

Answer 1

Narrated by Ibn ‘Umar ‫ رﺿﻲ اﷲ ﻋﻨﻬﻤﺎ‬:

The Prophet ‫ ﺻﻠﻰ اﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠﻢ‬said, “He who conceals the faults of a Muslim will
have his faults concealed by Allah on the Day of Judgment.”

This hadeeth is annulled: 1)in a court of law 2)when obtaining an opinion

concerning a marriage proposal and 3)concerning a person representing a public
office.
In most cases it is necessary to tell the parents but NO ONE else.

Scenario 2

You visit Friend 1 and have lunch at her house. It’s terrible! So, the next time you
see Friend 2 you tell her in detail how horrible Friend 1’s cooking is.

Answer 2

“Do not speak ill of each other behind each other’s backs. Would any of you like
to eat the flesh of his dead brother? No, you would abhor it.”
Al Qur’an Suratul Hujuraat 12.

Scenario 3

The two of you are talking and the topic turns to someone that has passed away.
You don’t have anything good to say about them. Gossip!
Answer 3

Narrated by Aisha ‫ رﺿﻲ اﷲ ﻋﻨﻬﺎ‬:

Allah's Messenger ‫ ﺻﻠﻰ اﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠﻢ‬said to a man, "Don't abuse the dead, because
they have reached the result of what they forwarded." (Al-Bukhari)

Scenario 4

You and your friend decide to visit another friend. You walk over and knock.
You see the curtain move but no one comes to the door. You knock again. You
know someone is at home but they don’t answer. What a nerve! You get angry
and the two of you walk back, letting it all out as you do!

Answer 4

“And if you find no one therein, still, enter not until permission has been given.
And if you are asked to go back, go back for it is purer for you. And Allah is All-
Knower of what you do." (Al Qur’an Suratun Nur:28)

From sayings of the Sahaaba: We should give each other seventy excuses for a
deed.

Scenario 5

Two of your friends have had an argument. One has come and told you about
some of the nasty things the other one said. You respond, “Really?! How could
she?! And you know what else she said…?!” Carry on encouraging the hatred.

Answer 5

Abu Dardaa’ ‫ رﺿﻲ اﷲ ﻋﻨﻪ‬reported:

When the Prophet ‫ ﺻﻠﻰ اﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠﻢ‬asked, “Should I inform you about that which
is better than fasting, charity and prayer?” we replied, “Yes.” At that, he said,
“Restoring peace between two contending people, since a dispute between the
two is destructive to both.” (Abu Dawood and Tirmidhi)
