ISO 2230
ISO 3601
ASTM D 2000
A 1100 5200 E
This standard covers the requirements of Nitrile Rubber compound of 70 ShoreA hardness. Correct
technical name for Nitrile rubber is Acrylonitrile Rubber (NBR).
2.0 APPLICATIONS
Nitrile Rubber (NBR) compound specified in this standard can be used for manufacturing :
- O-rings for sealing against air, oil and water at temperatures between 20 .... +100C
- Round & special extruded profiles
- Strip gaskets
Nitrile Rubber compound of 70 ShoreA hardness is the most commonly used type. Nitrile rubber has
very good resistance to swelling in oils & greases, and is specifically recommended for use in transformer
oils.

Property values within brackets are for information only and do not constitute any requirements. However
it will be used for testing after the compound is approved.
* Compression set measured on O-rings is higher than that measured on test specimen and the
difference is normally within 10%.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
The storage temperature should be below 30C and preferably in the vicinity of 15C. When articles
are taken from low temperature storage for immediate use, their temperature should be raised to
approximately 30C throughout before putting to use.

Storage conditions should be such that condensation of moisture does not occur. Articles should be
protected from light, in particular direct sunlight and strong artificial light with a high UV content, circulating
air and Ozone. Storage in opaque air-tight containers, e.g., sealed polyethylene bags, is preferable.
Rubber articles should, wherever possible, be stored in a relaxed condition - free from tension,
compression or other deformation. Care is to be taken to avoid surface damage such as scratches,
chipping, tearing, cutting, etc., during handling and storage.
Rubber articles should remain in store for as short a time as possible. Therefore, articles should be
issued from stores on FIFO basis so that the articles remaining in store are those of latest manufacture.
