Despite eleven days in which the high temperature
reached 90 degrees or greater with three of those
climbing to 100 degrees or more, the month of august
still wound up only a tenth of a degree warmer than
normal. This was because there were seven days during
the month where the high temperature was only in
the 60s and 70s, and seven mornings in which the low
temperature was 50 degrees or cooler.
The average temperature for the month wound
up being 70.3 degrees. The high reached at least 100
degrees three straight days from the 12th through
14th, the warmest being 105 degrees on the 14th. This
three-day period marked the first time since August
16th, 2013 that Glasgow had reached 100 degrees. The
coolest temperature for the month was 38 degrees on
the morning of the 23rd.
August was also drier than normal. Only 0.84 inch
of rain fell during the month, which was 0.40 inch below
normal. The most rain came on the 18th when 0.35 inch
fell in a two hour period. There were only three days
during the month in which a tenth of an inch or more
was recorded. There were five more days where less than
a tenth af an inch was measured.
The wind gusted to 30 mph or greater on twelve
days in August. The highest wind gust was 47 mph on
the 12th.
Looking ahead to September, normal high
temperatures for the month begin in the upper 70s,
ending up in the mid 60s. Normal lows start out in the
lower 50s, winding up in the upper 30s by the end of
the month. Average moisture for the month is 0.94 inch
while average snowfall is 0.2 inch.
