Installation of the control system

Please check the control system with regard to transport- or other damages prior to assembly.
Damages inside the control system may lead to serious consequential damages at the control
system.
This control system is intended to be installed directly at the wall. Fixing is done with the help of
mounting lugs, which are located at the bottom side. The control system has to be installed in a
way that the cable entries point towards the bottom. Please make sure, that mechanical vibrations
caused by the door are not transmitted on the control system (e.g. installation on a brick wall).
In a distance of 10 centimeters above and below the control system housing there must not be
any objects obstructing the air circulation arround the heat sink located at the back side of the
control system.
The position for installation has to be chosen in a way that direct insolation as well as other
atmospheric influences are avoided. In order to provide dead mans operation by the key pad, the
door has to be visible from the place of installation of the control system.
Please avoid touching the electronic parts and especially parts of the processor circuit, since this
circuit contains very sensitive electrostatic components, which might be damaged or destroyed by
electrostatic discharge.

Electric connection
Please observe the rules for the prevention of accidents as well as operating- and installation
instructions (such as DIN-VDE0100/0113/0160) when installing and commisioning.
Connection, testing and maintenance work on the control system should only be done when the
door is stationary. Please observe especially those points indicated under safety regulations.
This control system is designed for a nominal voltage of FUE1/FUE2 :230V 50Hz / 60Hz FU3 : 400
V, 50...60Hz. The permissible supply voltage has to be between FUE1/FUE2 :160VAC bis 265AC
FU3 : 200 ... 480 VAC 10% (180 ... 528 VAC). In case of supply voltages of more than FUE1/FUE2
:270VAC FU3 : 540 VAC, the control system may be seriously damaged.
The supply line has to be protected with 16A, type c trip curve (circuit breaker).
In case that the control system is protected by an earth leakage device, you have to take into
consideration that the leakage current of the EMV-filters and the shieldings of the power supply
leads may be higher than 30mA when the motor is running. The leakage current depends
considerably on the length of shielded cable and increases if the clock frequency of the output
transformer is intensified. The leakage current of a motor not running is 3,5 mA.
The control voltage of 24V for external devices, control circuits, all insert cards and for the
electronic limit switch is protected by a self-resetting semiconductor fuse. After having operated
the fuse, resetting is done after removing the cause of the overload or short circuit and a switchedoff time of at least five seconds.
All control voltage inputs are galvanicly separated from the supply network by the P.C.B.
insulation. Furthermore, all components to be connected to the control system have to have at
least one base isolation with a rated voltage of > 230 V.
As experience shows, high-speed pvc / plastic doors are very susceptible to high electrostatic
charging of the curtain. Discharge is done against the nearest point having a protective conductor
cover. In case that a discharge on the mass-bearing control inputs is caused by incorrect wiring,
the control system may be damaged. Especially the connections of the safety edge are extremely
endangered. As a countermeasure, we recommend a charge elimination device at the curtain.
For pin configuration, please refer to the enclosed wiring diagram.
Connections of the cables inserted into the control system should be short and lead directly to the
connecting terminal, if possible. (No kinks or loops).
In order to conform to the EMV rules, only shielded motor cables are allowed to be used. The
shield has to be connected to both sides (motor- and control side).
With regard to the inside of the control system, please make sure that the motor wiring is not cable
tied up with the supply main or control wiring. A maximum of 30m motor cable length is allowed.
Connections of induction loops have to be kept separate of all other conncecting lines and with the
greatest possible distance towards the motor wiring and live lines. Loop connections have to be
twisted in pairs up to the internal terminals of the control system.
When using incremental transmitters and absolute value transmitters for position indication, we
also recommend connection by shielded cables.
For wiring diagram, please see separate drawing in the appendix.
W A R N I N G: Never leave swarf or cable off-cuts in the enclosure of the control system.
Conductive elements may lead to severe damages at the printed card.

Safety instructions

Please read the following installation- and connection instructions carefully prior to
initiation and operation of the control system:
All installation, commisioning and maintenance work has to be carried out by qualified
engineers.
The Following Standards have to be observed : VDE 0100, VDE0105, VDE0113, VDE0160,
VDE0700.
The control system may only be opened if the mains supply is switched off.
Do not operate the control system with the panel door open.
Even five minutes after switching off the supply mains, dangerous voltages occur at the
secondary circuit capacitor. The discharge time to reach voltages below 60VDC is 5 minutes max.
It is dangerous to touch internal control components within this period of time.
In case of a faulty power supply, the discharge time of the secondary circuit capacitors to reach a
voltage below 60VDC may be considerably extended. In this case, discharge times of up to 10
minutes are possible (e.g. fuse F3 is defective)
If the control voltage of 24V is shorted-out or extremely overloaded, the power supply does not
start, although the secondary circuit capacitors have been charged.
After having switched off the supply mains, the power supply is still supplied by the secondary
circuit capacitors for some seconds and keeps up its supply function for a certain period of time,
depending on the power supply load.
The processor circuit with seven segment display, EPROM and multiplexers are connected
directly with the supply mains by earth bonding. In case of control measurement to be carried out
, this has to be strictly observed (do not use measuring instruments with PE-cover on the voltage
circuit when measuring in the processor circuit)
Do not operate the control system without an earth cable being connected. If the earth cable is
not connected, dangerous voltages occur at the housing of the control system, due to induced
capacitance. Connection of the earth cable has to be carried out according to EN50178, chapter
5.2.11.1 concerning increased leakage current >3,5mA.
Do not operate the control system with a defective keypad or window. Defective keypads or
windows have to be replaced. In order to avoid damages at the keypad, do not touch it with sharp
objects. In general, the keypad is designed for finger-touch operation only.
Prior to the initial connection of the control supply, you have to make sure that the safety edge
evaluation card is placed in the right position. If the card is plugged in at the wrong place, severe
damages at the control system may be caused.
When operating the door in dead mans operation, you have to make sure that the door opening
can be seen by the operator, since in this operation mode, safety devices such as safety edge or
safety beam do not work.
Disregard of the safety instructions may endanger your health or lead to damages at the control
system.
There is no guarantee for the completeness of these safety instructions. Should you have questions
concerning our product, please contact your supplier.
The manufacturer has thoroughly checked hardware and software, as well as the product
information, but however, cannot guarantee for absolute correctness.
Marking of the device (type plate with name and address of the manufacturer, serial number, model
designation, supply voltage and temperature range) has to be done by the user.

Use of electronic limit switches

Application of the absolute value transmitter DES

7.1.1 Initiation of the door system with absolute value transmitter DES as limit switch
The following chart may be used as an instruction for the testing and adjustment of door systems with
the absolute value transmitter TST PB-A (or GfA-DES) as a limit switch, and contains some important
hints to be observed. For parameterization handling, please refer to the chapter General instructions
for parameter adjustment mode.
The paramters listed below are only a small excerpt from the available parameters necessary for
commissioning.

1. Switch off the control system and bring the door in neutral position.
Check the electric supply according to pin configuration plan!
2. Put the DIP-switch S1 on service mode (ON-position)
3. Operate the EMERGENCY STOP PUSHBUTTON, plug in the mains plug resp. switch
on the current supply.
4. Select parameter P.100 (for nominal motor frequency, see type plate)
5.

Open the parameter nominal motor frequency and compare it with the data on the type plate of the
motor according to the following chart:
In case of deviation, the values have to be corrected!

6. Select parameter P.101 nominal motor current

7. Open parameter motor current and compare it to the indications on the type plate. Motor
current on the actuator type plate and set value should be identical,
in case of deviation, the value has to be adjusted appropriately!
Maximum value for 0,75kW converter 4,7A
Maximum value for 1,5kW converter 9,0A
Maximum value for 4kW converter TST-FU3
10A
This parameter is the basis of motor protection and control functions. However, it is still
necessary to connect a thermoelectric sensing device for temperature control of the motor in the
safety circuit.

8. Select parameter P.102 power factor cos

9. Open the parameter power factor and compare it with the indications on the motor type
plate.
Both values should be identical, if not, the parameter value has to be adapted!
The given standard value 80 corresponds to power factor cos 0,80

Safety The control system has received a hardware-conditioned reset. All

internal checks are carried out and the control system is initialized, if
necessary This may lead to the situation that a current process is interrupted
or a new command is ignored.
The overall current of the motor circuit has exceeded the first of two limits.

The control system monitors the voltage of the part open circuit, which has
exceeded the first peak value. Reason for this is the motors generating
service, which means that the motor is driven by the door during the
stopping process.

The temperature of the heat sink for the power semiconductor has exceeded
a first limit. The door can be moved up to the upper end of travel in
automatic mode and remains in this position until the heat sink temperature
has fallen below a defined value. Dead man operation is still possible.
The temperature of the brake resistor has exceeded a first limit. The door
can be moved up to the upper end of travel and remains in this position until
the temperature of the brake resistor has fallen below a certain value. Dead
man operation is still possible.

The control system monitors the voltage of the part open circuit, which has
exceeded a second peak value. Rason for this is the generating operation of
the motor, which means that the motor is driven by the door during stopping
mode.
The control system monitors the voltage of the part open circuit. This serves
as supply voltage for the converter. In case that the voltage of the part open
circuit is too low, the door may be operated only under restricted conditions.
The control system monitors the supply voltage and emits this error message
in case of overload.
Temperature of the power semiconductors heat sinkhas exceeded the fully
open limit.

The temperature of the brake resistor has exceeded a second limit. The door
can only be operated in dead mans mode, until the temperature of the brake
resistor has fallen below a certain value.

The control system permanently checks the plausibility of the door position.
The condition, that limit switches in the upper and lower positions are
operated simultaneously, is recognized as error.

The positions detected by the displacement transducer are transmitted to the

control system by an interface. These transmissions are permanently
checked. In case of incorrect logs, this error message is emitted.
The positions detected by the displacement transducer are transmitte to the
control system by an interface. These datea transmission have to take place
within a certain period of time. In case that this time cannot be obserfedeven
after several trials, the appropriate error message is emitted.
the positions detected by the displacment transducer are transmitted to the
control system by an interface. The control system expects new data within
a certain period of time. However, if no transmission has taken place after
certain time, this error message is emitted.
The data detected by the position evaluation device deviate extremely from
the data acquired before (position skip). In case that the value exceeds the
defined window range even after several checks, this value is considered to
be not plausible.
The position evaluation device TST PB acquires and transmits the position
in two separate channels, so that the control system always gets two position
values. These two values differ by a certain amount. If the amount is too
small, this error message is emitted.
The control system periodically checks its position data. If one of these
values seems to be no plausible, this error message is emitted.

The internal supply voltage exceeds the valid range, which impairs safe
functioning of the control system. The cause of this may be a failure in the
hardware.
The supply voltage exceeds the valid range, which impairs safe functioning
of the control system. One reason for this may be a failure in the hardware.
The control system performs cyclic checks of the emergency stop inputs. If
a defined hierarchy is not observed during a release, the control system
recognizes that there must be an error in the evaluation electronics resp. that
the wiring is defective.
Parallel to the internal watchdog, the control system is monitored by an
external watchdog. For safety purposes, this part of the circuit is checked.
This message occurs, if the external watchdog is defective.
The control system carries out cyclic checks of its program memory, the
EPROM. If the program recognizes a wrong check sum, all functions
leading to a movement of the door are immediately blocked.
The control system carries out cyclic checks of its working memory, called
RAM. In case that the program recognizes a defective storage location, all
control functions leading to a movement of the door are immediately
blocked for safety reasons.
The control system carries out cyclic checks of its interrupt system. During
this check, an error has been detected.

The control system has a block of parameters, which is responsible for the
behaviour of the actuator. These data are of special importance to the safety
of the system. Apart from global parameters, the control system checks this
parameter block prior to each travel. Should these values not be plausible,
this error message is emitted.
An automatic check is carried out in order to prevent that, due to the
exchange of program memories resp. change of program versions, an
uncontrollable behaviour of the control system is created by wrong
parameters.
An internal test has proved that at least one parameter is not plausible.

Indication of loop frequency

Approx. 1 s after the detector has been aligned, the loop frequency is
indicated via flash signals of the green LED. First, the 10kHz-digit is
indicated. In steps of a loop frequency of 10kHz, the green LED of the
detector channel will flash one time. After a break of 1s, the 1kHz-digit is
indicated in the same way. If the units digit has the significance of '0', 10
flash signals will be emitted. The 1kHz-flash signals will be a little shorter
than those of the 10kHz-digit.

units

5x 10kHz

7x 1kHz

5 Technical data

The admissible frequency range is 30kHz to 130kHz. The frequency

depends on the loop geometry, number of turns, inductivity resulting from
the loop supply line and the chosen frequency level.
A rebalancing can be manually triggered by changing the frequency
adjustment of a channel.
As soon as switched on, the detector automatically carries out an
adjustment of the loop frequency. In case of a short-term voltage loss of
<0,1s no rebalancing will take place.
