THE NATIONAL SECURITY

In today’s scenario, the national security of our country has become a matter of
prime concern. Being surrounded by few hostile and democratically weak neighbors,
the position of India becomes more vulnerable to external forces. Before wounds of
partition could heel up, Pakistan sponsored hostile activities in our country,
particularly in J&K, started establishing its root. The message conveyed by Pakistan
through kabaili attack, fully supported by Pakistani regulars during winter of 1947-48,
was loud and clear. The bone of contention between both the countries has now
become as old as more than 6 decades. In early days, the jehadi elements were
cultivated and nurtured by the Pakistan ISI to establish their firm bases in Kashmir.
Even blood shed in Punjab for almost 10 years was also directly supported by
Pakistan. The whole design of militancy to counter the Russian Forces for almost a
decade in Afghanistan, crafted by Pakistan with support of America, was also part of
larger game plan. The hardliner militia’s of Afghanistan were trained, armed and
financed by Pakistan with the help of America during cold war. It’s a great irony that
the whole band of Taliban terrorists, after withdrawal of Russian Forces, has now
turned their guns towards western countries and now towards Pakistan itself. With
Taliban occupying the SWAT region of Pakistan, just 212kms away from Islamabad
and reoccurrence of suicide attacks in Pakistan, the situation seems to be a matter of
great concern. America’s unending pressure on Pakistan and Barrack Obama’s new
policy also do not seem to be effective. Recently, the Taliban’s have threatened to
pull out from truce accord with Pakistan government in SWAT on the issue of
implementation of Shariah Law. Also, the dual policy of Pak army on fighting terrorism
along with US forces has complexed the situation further. This is also the fact that for
stability and security of India, a stable and secured Pakistan is an essential
requirement. The newly formed government in Pak under President Ship of Zardari,
after assassination of Benazir Bhutto and relinquishment of Gen Musharraf, has also
proved fragile and in-effective against jehadi elements. Now, the effort of Pakistan
would be to press upon forced infiltration into India through Kashmir for diverting
attention of International community and naming India as an equally disturbed
homeland. This has become now an area of concern for our country to get alarmed.
Whether Al-queda or Talibans have made their entry into India through LOC is not yet
confirmed but the events are quite clear for taking guard against such design. For
security and integrity of our country, the neighboring countries are also required to
be immune from terrorist’s activities. With Pan-India terrorism and larger strategy of
radical forces, the national security calls for due priority in national agenda. Hope,
the mass diversion of central armed forces towards ensuing Parliament election will
not compromise with security of international borders of our country.
