To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the National Malaria Programme of Thailand
and the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, IMC 2010 presents the past, present, and future of malaria control challenges, hopes, and solutions. While we recognize the undeniable successes of malaria control in the last few decades, we also acknowledge the complexity and challenging nature of current malaria control issues. The theme for IMC is “New Challenges and Hopes for Malaria Control”. Cutting-edge scientific discoveries such as transmission-blocking vaccine, and modified mosquitos are presented along side issues regarding disease control policies, population and human resistance to malaria control measures, and community’s self determination in choosing control measures. Global as well as regional issues is addressed in this meeting, for example, issues particular to Asia and the Pacific Regions, and malaria issues related to the ties between Asia and Africa and Asia and the Americas. IMC 2010 is organized as an integral part of the Joint International Tropical Medicine Meeting 2010 (JITMM 2010) 2-3 December 2010, but the event has a separate opening session on December 1st, 2010 at 16:00. We are planning a keynote session that encompass the past, present and future of malaria control.
