Our Greatest Ally in Missionary WorkThe Holy Ghost

I was reflecting on the incredible and miraculous nature of missionary work as I was
reading through Preach My Gospel recently. The impression that came to me was that
this is not a work that relies on the arm of flesh. Because it is a divine work that has
eternal ramifications, it must be done with divine power. Our great ally in this work is,
of course, the Holy Ghost. Because the Holy Ghost does not testify of that which is not
true, we know that if our lives are in order and we are worthy to have Him with us, we
always have a spiritual advantage. Other faiths simply do not have the Gift of the Holy
Ghost. We do and combined with the Book of Mormon they make a very powerful duo
in testifying of the truth of our message. As I was reading in Chapter 4 in Preach My
Gospel, I wrote down these 13 powerful statements about this wonderful ally. They are
worthy of contemplation and reflection as we realize we cannot do this work without
His influence:

You have been promised inspiration to know what to do and have been given
the power to do it
You need to seek and receive personal revelation through the Holy Ghost as
you help people become baptized and confirmed.
The Holy Ghost can work through the Light of Christ
The Holy Ghost bears witness of the truth.so deeply that no earthly
power or authority can separate him (the soul) from that knowledge.
When conversion takes place, it is through the power of the Spirit.
When the Spirit touches the heart, hearts are changed.
The Spirit is given to us by the prayer of faith.
The Spirit speaks quietly, through your feelings as well as your mind (it
whispers, caresses gently).
As the Lords servant, you are to do His work in His way and by His power.
No man can preach the Gospel without the Holy Ghost!
Be willing to follow the Spirit and change your plans when unforeseen
opportunities arise.
When a man speaks by the power of the Holy Ghost, the Holy Ghost carries
it to the heart of the listener.
We must have the Spirit with us not only when we teach, but also when we
find.

When we are giving a discussion and we feel the Spirit strongly, we need to stop the
lesson for just a brief interval and point out to the investigator that the wonderful
feeling of peace, of warmth, of calm, of light, of exhilaration is the Holy Ghost so that
they can recognize it every time they feel it. Sometimes I feel that we dont completely
understand what the power of the Holy Ghost can do for us. It plays a much larger and
broader role in our lives than most people realize. Here is what Parly P. Pratt said about
the Holy Ghost:
The gift of the Holy Ghost quickens all the intellectual faculties, increases, enlarges,
expands, and purifies all the natural passions and affections; and adapts them by the
gift of wisdom, to their lawful use. It inspires, develops, cultivates and matures all the
fine-toned sympathies, joys, tastes, kindred feelings, and affections of our nature. It
inspires virtue, kindness, goodness, tenderness, gentleness, and charity. It develops
beauty of person, form and features. It tends to health, vigor, animation, and social
feeling. It invigorates all the faculties of the physical and intellectual man. It
strengthens, and gives tone to the nerves. In short, it is, as it were, marrow to the
bone, joy to the heart, light to the eyes, music to the ears, and life to the whole being.
How blessed we are to have this great Ally in this work. I pray that we may not ever lose
sight of how real conversion takes place. We should thank the Lord in our prayers for
the blessing of the Spirit in our lives as missionaries. May we do this is my prayer,

Attributes of Jesus Christ Hope


My favorite scripture is 2 Nephi 31:20 Wherefore ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ
with a perfect brightness of HOPE, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press
forward feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, thus sayeth the father; ye shall have
eternal life.
Hope is an abiding trust that the Lord will fulfill his promises to you. It is manifest in Confidence,
Optimism, Enthusiasm, and patient perseverance. It is believing and expecting that something will
occur. When you have hope, you work through trials and difficulties with the confidence and assurance
that all things will work together for your good. Hope helps you conquer discouragement. The
scriptures font describe hope in Jesus Christ as the assurance that you will inherit eternal life in the
Celestial Kingdom.
As missionaries we can exercise our Hope by
1) Being Confident Confident that your message of the Restored Gospel will bless lives.
2) Being Optimistic Optimistic about your message-hoping that it will bring your investigators to be
baptized
3) Being Enthusiastic Enthusiastic about your message-hoping that others will recognize the truth.
4) Being Patient Patiently finding and teaching-working hard and overcoming rejection.
5) Believing and expecting We can believe there are people in our areas waiting and expecting to be
found.
President James E. Faust taught:
Hope is trust in Gods promises, faith that if we act now, the desired blessings will be fulfilled in the
future
In Ether 12:4 we read Wherefore whoso believeth in God might with surety Hope for a better world,
yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls
of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to
glorify God.
President Dayton and I love each of you very much. We hope and pray daily that you will feel of our
love and the Saviors love as you bring his children to him. We know that as you are hopeful in your
life, you will more fully experience the Lords spirit with you in His most important work.

Hola president. This week was
so good. I got my first baptism,
and I can't even describe my
feelings from during the service.
It was Steven Alexis Ospina
Mena, we found him on the
streets, and he is from Columbia.
Elder ______ is such a hard
worker, and really trying to help
me be the best missionary I can
be, we are having success and we
both know it is definitely not us,
it is truly the Lords hand in our
lives.
We were very blessed by the
Lord this week. Last night I felt so
grateful for everything that
happened as I prayed, the Spirit
keeps playing a bigger and bigger
role in my mission. Andrea was
baptized on Saturday and
confirmed yesterday. It was quite
the adventure leading up to his
baptism. He opened the door the
day we met him and initially said
no he didnt have time but with a
little persistence opened the door
to us. That week he told us hed
come to church but ended up not
coming. We took him to church the
next week, lost contact with him the
entire next week and thought all had
ended until we saw him in the street
one day doing our pass by plans. The
next day after that we met again and
started to teach again. The
culmination of it all finally came as
we got to see him enter the
covenant of baptism this last
weekend.

With the spirit strong and at


the end of our testimonies, with
as much love as I have for these
ladies, I asked them if they
wanted to be baptized and if they
felt like they were ready now?
Vicky's response was that she's
been ready from day one and has
just been waiting on Rosa, and
Rosa got quiet and then looked us
dead in the eyes and this was her
response. "I thought that Christ
had abandoned me and was
punishing me and that the only
person I could turn to for help
was Vicky. Now I know that He
loves me, that He is their for me,
that The Book of Mormon is true,
and that He wants me to be
baptized. Yes, I want to be
baptized. Not because you want
me to be, but because I want to
fallow Christ and I know it's
right." When I asked them when
they would like to be baptized,
they asked if they could be
baptized Saturday and I
replied yes. I'm privileged to say that
Rosa and Vicky are now members of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints. Saturday afternoon we
had a beautiful spirit with us during
their baptismal service, as I baptized
Rosa and Elder House baptized
Vicky. I can't begin to describe my
feelings or the experience it was to
stand in the font with Rosa, because
in all honesty it was the most sacred
experience of my life. Their literally
are times when Heaven and earth
are connected, and that was one of
them. I also was privileged to
confirm Rosa and Vicky and give
them the Holy Ghost Sunday during
sacrament meeting, and that was
another great spiritual experience.

Where to begin... The


Miracles! The zone! The zone!
10,4 average new per
companionship!! The zone was
inspired! Thank you thank you so
much for raising that pauta!
The whole week we would call
every companionship just
screaming the number 8, into the
phone (because that was he
number of the new goal)
and tell people they can do it and
scream and then hang up the
phone, and people would get
pumped! We were doing that up
until the very last moment of the
week! Every single
companionship but 1 reached the
goal and we had an average as a
zone as 10,4! A number I think
that has never been seen in the
mission before! We were so
proud of the zone! It was such a
party! Elder Baumann and I saw
miracle after miracle. We were
able to find 21 new investigators!
I have never seen so many
miracles in my mission. 11 of the
investigators we have came to
church and 6 have fechas, 1 of
which is Fernando who will be
baptized this week, who in
himself is such an amazing
miracle! A young Spanish man,
leaving a life behind, with such
desires to start fresh! He is
amazing!

Washington (from Ecuador)
was baptized on Saturday! I sang
Grand Eres T and taught about
the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I was
so nervous, but he seemed to like
it! He has this funny little smile!
Oh what joy that filled my whole
self when he came out just
smiling! He bore his testimony
afterwards and it was amazing.
He stated, "I wish I had known
about this truth my whole life,
but I am excited to come to
church and be clean every week."
He just gets it! We were walking
him home afterwards and he
said, "Hermanas, I am so thankful
you came back for me." (The
Elders had put him on the "back
burner.") As I said, he just gets it. I
feel like we baptized the next
bishop of the ward or something.

So we were also blessed to see


a fantastic baptism this week. His
wife and sister, both non
members, attended his baptism.
They were both very glad at his
decision and very emotional. His
baptism, without a doubt, has
made a significant impact in their
lives as much as it had on Eddy.
I learned when we rely on the
Lord, miracles happen. The fact
that Eddy got baptized was a
miracle. He was at first unsure
that we would get baptized
because he wanted his wife there
and they were not sure if she
would be able to make the 2 hour
trip from a pueblo in Bilbao. The
three of us did a fast and the
situation miraculously, almost at
the last second, arranged itself
and she was able to come after
all! If she hadn't been able to
make it then she would have had
to wait until NEXT MONTH to get
the permission she would need
to come out to San Sebastin.
Luckily, the Lord answered our
fast and took care of that
situation.
So this week I wanna talk about
an amazing blessing we had this
week which was Eddy's baptism!!
If you guys remember from older
emails Eddy is a mix between a
contact on the street and a
referral from one of our recent
converts marry! Well we saw his
walking Mary's dog and so Elder
Carballo and I felt like it was the
perfect opportunity to talk to
him! So we did and at first he was
kinda hesitate to talk with us but
was a super nice guy and decided

that he would stop by for one of


the lesson we were teaching
Mary (this is back before the
baptism of Mary) well when he
came we were talking about the
Plan of Salvation and something
clicked with him right away! He
said that there was just
something the felt so similar and
true about our message and from
then on out we started to teach
him!
This past week was amazing!
We had a baptism! Gabi got
baptized! It's such a great story. 4
weeks ago we entered into a
store to buy some water because
we were thirsty and we started to
talk with the lady at the counter
named Luz and she eventually
told us that she is a member of
the church but hadn't been to
church for years and her children
had never been baptized so we
started to teach Gabi right there
in the store and he was so
prepared he kept all of his
commitments and helped his
mom come back to church and it
was just such a great miracle. This
just goes to show that we can
share the gospel in any situation
and that the lord has people
prepared everywhere to hear the
gospel. What a miracle!
