WEEK OF AUGUST 31, 2015

GENERAL REMINDERS
CONGRATS ON FINISHING THE BOARDS!!!!! Welcome back D3s :)
This is a reminder that effective September 1, 2015, all faculty, students, and staff
who are assigned to patient care areas at NYUCD will be now required to wear
disposable lab coats as a component of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
This change reflects NYUCDs ongoing efforts to provide ever-higher health and safety
standards to protect against exposure to contaminants in the clinical setting.
Students wear yellow, faculty will wear white.
You must clip or pin your name tag on the disposable gowns so they are visible
New Student Fall schedules can be found on the intranet.

CLINICAL AFFAIRS
Unless theres urgent information, expect clinical updates on the google drive and in the
newsletter every Sunday!
As per Dr. Wolff: paper charts will now have to be specifically requested at least 48 hours
prior to patients appointment. Please only request the charts if its necessary.
You can start clinic off-session starting September 1st. Heres the protocol:
1. You must have a 90% aPendance rate in clinic.
2. You must ll out an o-session form 24 hours in advance and get approval from your
GPD and A.C.. If you are not in clinic please email your GPD and cc your Academic
Coordinator for permission.
3. Place the appointment in the opposite clinic for an example 4CDB would place their
o- session appointment in 4CDA Super OverFlow secCon. There are 6 Super Overow
spots. If the 6 spots are full you can not bring in the paCent. No, 4p.m. is not an opCon
for D3s.
Perio updates The syllabus is not up yet because it is awaiting final approval & there
are issues with AxiUm to iron out.
Important To Do Make it a priority to get your Perio requirements out of the way
early, because if you do it around Dec/Jan, you will lose your cases to seniors who need
them more than you. Please focus on:
4 SRPs to qualify to take a Formative
You can only do your Formative with Perio faculty; NOT perio residents--be sure to
ask and check.
After doing your formative, check your grades ASAP to make sure they are there;
unlike the Perio Assist, it should be instant.
Do look at the Perio resources carefully--they are HIGHLY informaCve.

FAQ
Q: I dont see my Perio Assist up on my MDR list, when will I see it?
A: You will never see it; nearing the end of the semester, ask your GPD. The Perio Dept is ironing
out AxiUm issues that prevent them from puhng grades in etc. So, again, hold on to your
paperwork VERY WELL un7l you pass D3.
Q: What procedures dont qualify for a Perio Assist?
A: EssenCally anything that is only 5 minutes long or does not delve into Perio. Most residents
and faculty are informaCve about this. Examples of non-qualifying procedures: ExtracCons
without bone graNs. Stage 2 implant placement.
Q: What is this Perio Clinic on my schedule?
A: This is Perio RotaCon either in the fall or spring. It is mandatory and at 5W. If you have it on
Labor Day weekend, you may be able to get out at 4PM instead of 5PM.

This Google Doc (NYU Login) has been compiled by Nabil and Stephanie to serve as a
quick reference for course requirements, attendance policy, grade breakdown and other
details. It's still a work in progress and will be updated over the next few days. More
information regarding clinical requirements will be coming from Ava and Stefan.
Please note that it is your responsibility to review all the course syllabi.

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES
Outreach guidelines below:
1. Only sign up for 2 outreaches a month.
2. Please only sign up yourself. Any others you sign up will be erased
3. Once you have signed up for an outreach, you MUST go. If you find out that you
cannot go, please contact Regina Gurevich immediately at rg1521@nyu.edu or via
cell at (347) 306-2811. Please do not try and find substitutions for yourself because that
defeats the purpose of a wait list.
4. If you have not contacted Regina 24 hrs prior to the outreach, you are expected to be
there. If she has not heard from you and you do not show up to the outreach, you will be
under a 3 month probation period in which you are unable to attend an outreach for the

TIPS FROM UPPERCLASSMEN

If a Medicaid patient is willing to pay for a procedure out-of-pocket, then you need a separate treatment
plan. The financial manager will have to deactivate their Medicaid for that treatment plan and then
reactivate it after you got the out-of-pocket plan approved.

Do you have Cps from upperclassmen? Please share them by emailing me at rola@nyu.edu
