EXERCISES
1. Create a new library
Open EndNote: click start > all programs > EndNote > EndNote program
2. Styles
a. Selecting and viewing a style:
- Choosing Select another styles > choose ex. APA
- Select edit > Output styles > Open styles manager > Find > tick the styles to select
these styles as favourites > close the styles box
b. Editing styles
Select edit > Output styles > Open styles manager > Find the style and edit it
3. Enter a new reference
Select references > new reference > select appropriate reference type (ex. Book, journal
articles) and enter data in the library (also add file into the file attachment) > close the box
to save it
4. Sorting the references
- Click the column heading (Ex. Author)
- Select references > sort references
5. Searching the references
Select references > search references
6. Hide and show references
Select references > Show all/ selected/ hide references
7. Copy record from one library to another
Select the references (all/selected) > copy > paste to the other library
8. Create a quick list of citations
Select required references (all/ selected) > file > export > save as type: specify .rtf (rich text
format) > open file in Word then save with a .doc extension or copy the recorded data in
a.rtf then paste into file Word as needed
9. Insert references in a paper and create a bibliography (Cite while you write)
- From Word menu bar > select tools > EndNote X1 > Find citation
- Select references from .enl > insert selected references From Word menu bar
- Editing citations: Highlight the citation > edit citation > click exclude author > OK
