ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

First of all, we would like to express our deep gratitude to Kathmandu Model Hospital
School of Nursing for providing an opportunity to study Post Basic Bachelor of Nursing
Programme that facilitated us to practice college management as a partial fulfillment of
the requirement of the Bachelor Degree in Nursing Programme.

We offer our boundless thanks to our respected teachers, who have had directly and
indirectly providing guidance, encouragement and supervision to us.

We have no word to express our sense of view and gratitude towards Ms. Sanu Tuladhar,
Principal of KAMHSON and all the staffs of this institute who are directly and indirectly
involved in our tasks for their mutual cooperation and the provision of required
information about the total academic & administrative activities regarding the role and
responsibilities of campus chief as well as other concerned sectors in guidance to prepare

Background

This Leadership and management Practicum work has been assigned to us as partial
fulfillment of the Bachelor of Nursing (B.N) under the curriculum of Purbanchal
University. We are assigned at Kathmandu Model Hospital, School of Nursing for one
week. We have to observe the administrative and academic responsibilities of campus
chief as well as management of campus.

During the period of one week of campus management, we tried to identify role and
responsibilities of campus chief in planning, budgeting and administration, curriculum
development, controlling, method of faculty supervision, as well as evaluation of faculty
and administrative personnel.

General Objectives
To identify the role of campus chief in academic and administrative management of
nursing campus of KAMHSON.

Specific Objectives
The specific objectives of the campus management practicum are to find out the role of
campus chief in

Formation of academic and administrative policy.

Plan for annual budget for controlling and management of administration and
academic programme.

Annual plan for allocation and control of resources in academic programme and
administration.

Process for Information Collection

Introduction with campus chief and the other staffs.

Orientation about the physical facilities of the campus.

3. Interview:
Interview with campus chief and all the related sectors such as administrative chief,
storekeeper, librarian, hostel warden and faculty members to collect the adequate
information.

4. Observation:
By the method of observation, we have gained the knowledge about the over- all
academic as well as administrative management of the campus. We observed all the
physical set up of the KAMHSON during day-by-day activities regarding administration,
store, library, hostel, classrooms and other office rooms. We also observed the methods of
filing and documentation of the office.

6. Discussion:
We went to the different departments as our objectives and asked our quiries to the staffs,
about their activities to run the college smotthly.

Performed Activities
We have visited in KAMHSON from 2066/03/28 to 2066/04/3 for leadership &
management practicum (college management).

On the first day of the practicum, we met

the campus chief, Mrs. Sanu Tuladhar.

Campus chief herself gave orientation about KAMHSON regarding physical set up of
class room, library, hostel, administration and store section. And then we have made a
plan for one week and discussed with campus chief about our plan and objectives. She
agreed with our schedule.

On the 2nd day, we have interacted with administrative personnel to find out
organizational structure (Annex II), inter and extra organizational relationship, channel of

communication, line of authority & delegation of responsibilities. We have performed


day-by-day activities such as visit to all the sectors of the campus such as administration,
library.

On the 3rd day, we did interview and interaction with the campus chief and observed her
activities. We also interact with staffs of the different sectors such as administration,
store, house mother where we collected all the required informations such as recordingreporting system, store keeping, and maintenance & also demonstrated the filing system.
Likewise the role and responsibilities of all the staffs are also collected according to their
job description (Annex-3)

On the 4th day, we went to meet the faculty members (coordinators) then asked about the
planning, and able to get operational calendar then all colleagues discussed about the
collected information and started to report writing.

On the 5th day, prepared draft report was reviewed among the colleagues and then
forwarded to the campus chief and finalize the report.

At last, on the 6th day, the final report was submitted to the campus chief and then we
provide vote of thanks for their kind cooperation and support to get the knowledge of
management regarding to academic and administrative activities.

Findings
1. Introduction of phect- NEPAL
Phect- NEPAL is a secular,non-political,not for making profit, national level nongovernmental organization committed in health development. It was founded in 1991 and
is governed by an independent Executive- Board. In addition, an advisory team

comprising experts of different fields supports it.phect- NEPAL is registered with the
Social Welfare council and District Administration Office, Kathmandu. The phectNEPAL constitution is the principal guiding documents of the organization.

VISSION
Recognizing that HEALTH is the individuals ability to achieve, enjoy and maintain a
harmonic relation ship with his /her being and nature at large, Phect- NEPAL has declared
its mission to work for society with healthy people

The direction of Phect- NEPAL is guided by the vision Empowerment of


people through health action

Phect- NEPAL aims to creat a model of sustainable health care system


based on principles of equity, social justice, peoples participation and self reliance.
Thus, having been evolved through more than a decade of existence, Phect- NEPAL is
taking the shape of the movement rather than a mere organization.

Nepal, besides facing the health problems as any other country, also has its own specific
difficulties in solving these problems. While there is a huge mass of unfinished agenda to
deal with, newer challenges are emerging. This challenges need to be faced from different
planes.

In any strategy to cope with health problems, production of appropriate human resource
is the common denominator and cannot be avoided. Therefore more important us to
produce adequate no of mid level health workers needed at almost all levels of health
care delivery system.

Public Health Concern Trust (phect-Nepal), a non government, non-profit organization


engaged in the mission to create a non government model of health care system since last
15 yrs, feels its responsibility participate in this enormous task of nursing education for
the country.

With this feeling of responsibility, phect- Nepal has decided to establish a school of
nursing named Kathmandu Model Hospital School of Nursing (KAMHSON).

Within a short period phect-Nepal has already developed its unique and nobel health care
system comparing a network of community managed primary health care centers and cooperatives and a central general hospital.

The community health activities are led and managed by the Community Health
Development Programme(CHDP) for primary health care, Kathmandu Model Hospital
(KMH) provides secondary and tertiary care with 125 beds capacity, 24 hours emergency
services and learning area for the clinical practice of nursing, medical students and other
trainees of health care training programme.

1. Introduction of campus (Kathmandu Model Hospital, School of Nursing)

Background:

Kathmandu Model Hospital, School of Nursing was established in Chaitra 2058 BS, with
3 years Certificate of Nursing Programme of Phect-NEPAL for the achievement of its
educational aim in this area, which is affiliated by CTEVT. Once a year, only female
candidates are allowed to enter in this programme according to criteria given by Nepal
nursing council. This pcl-nursing programme is of three years, presently with 120
students.

From the year 2062, Kathmandu Model Hospital, School of Nursing is running with 2
years Post Basic Bachelor in nursing affiliated to Purbanchal University (P.U).

Kathmandu Model Hospital School of Nursing (KAMHSON) is one of the nongovernmental organizations, established with in the initiation of a NGO known as
At present the school is located at Thulobharyang, near by Swayambhu Temple. It has
easy access to public transportation. It is endowed with all requisites to flourish into a
good center for learning. This school is operated as NGO under the rules and regulation
of CTEVT, PU and NNC.

Vision of KAMHSON

KAMHSON will deliver nursing education of the highest quality to meet the needs of the
individuals, academic institution, health institution, and nation as a whole through
widening participation and by raising the intellectual, academic and practical
achievements of young people and adults in Nepal, by providing skills, knowledge and
qualification as well as by facilitating the ethical norms and social responsibilities.

Mission statement of KAMHSON


Regarding that the nursing profession is extremely important in the process of healing
and alleviating human suffering due to illness, and that the nurses are professionally
placed at an extremely sensitive position where they have to work at the interface
between life and death and that their attitude makes a difference between empowering
and dehumanizing the suffering human soul, the KAMHSON declares its mission is to
produce technically competent and socially responsible nurses those are:

Educational Philosophy
Phect-Nepal has educational philosophy that the learning and teaching of health science
becomes meaningful and refine their knowledge base whenever needed, and the students
have scientific attitude towards the knowledge and understand and accept the principle of
evidence-based practice. In order to achieve this goal KAMHSON will have the
following educational strategies.

System based integrated approach of basic sciences.

More emphasis in practical exercise in hospital.

Fieldwork practice in communities where the real public health care need is
felt.

Enough practice in students learning center.

Case presentation session.

Self-directed students centered learning.
