Factors That Affect The Waste Disposal Behavior

of The Residents of Aplaya, Bauan, Batangas

CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM
Introduction
1

In the residential sector, socio-economic status and housing characteristics

affect not only the amount of municipal waste that individuals generate, but also
how they manage it (Emery et al., 2003). Social pressure may also influence
behavior regarding waste management (Barr, 2003).
We all know that one of the problems that our communitys facing is the
waste disposal behavior of the residents in a barangay. The residents in Aplaya
throw their garbage opposite the school where their children are studying and the
researchers want to know their reasons for that behavior. The stink and the garbage
that scattered near the school and the highway become so disgusting.
The researchers recognized the waste disposal behavior of the residents in
Aplaya was so alarming. Despite the fact that it is not allowed to throw their
garbage there they still do and disregard it. So the purpose of this research is to
determine the factors that affect the waste disposal behavior and intended to be
relevant to the solution of some practical issue.

following questions.

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents with regards to the

following :

4. What are the patterns of behavior of the residents towards disposing their
garbage?
