"forgotten

men"

Attending National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Washington, D.C. last

January I was impressed with the message entitled "Forgotten Men".
The speaker developed his theme around chose who were gathered - the religiois
broadcasters - men who sit behind the microphones. People hear their message
but they do not think about the messanger.

How true that is. But it concerns not only the broadcasters. We can say
the
same about Christian writers, translators, poets, compo.''ers
People read and demand good articles, listen to messages in song or in
word
and judge them by their contest but how seldom they think about the messanger,
the one who puts his whole heart into the ministry!
But we thank God that we are not forgotten by God's people, who pray constant
ly for us and the work we do, who are concerned about our wellbeing and share
with us the blessings of life.
Not only your gifts toward our work speak loudly about your love,
but your
prayers, your words of encouragement expressed in your letters, your interest
in us and the message we preach.
You remember also those faithful preachers in Poland who preach and win souls
for Christ because of your love.

We seldom write in our

newsletters about ourselves. We report about the work

we do.

But this time I would like to say few words about Bro. Winnik. He came to this
country 13 years ago at the age of 59 to work with us. For 13 years
this

faithful servant worked dilligently, many times not noticed by many of us.
He had three heart attacks, but every tircs soon after recovery he was back at
work preparing radio messages, cassettes, answering letters, packing and sen
ding out literature.

January 30 th

Bro. Winnik was hospitalized again, 2 days later - in intensi-

ve care. When I saw hu him Feb 1st I thought we lost Bro. Winnik for good. We
prayed like never before individually and as the church, and now there is hope
that Bro.

Winnik will retur.n and work with us again /of course with a much ea

sier load/.

We ask you to pray for Bro. Winnik that the Lord will restore his health and that

his smiling face will bring joy to many of us as he preaches the Word, especially
through the cassette ministry, so that manyjsouls in Poland will accept Lord Jezus
as their personal Saviour.

Once more we thank yuo that although we are forgotten by this world, we are not
forgotten by YOU!

FROM

THE

FIEUDS

POLAND:

Dear Bro. Bajko. We thank God for the new house of worship. Having our own pla
ce we have more activities: special meetings, revivals, youth groups, etc.
We thank God that we had several baptismal services in 1980 - 10 souls were added

by the Lord to the Church, all of them young people.

We still remeber your last visit in our church, your preaching and fellowship. We
wish you God*s blessing in your work. Please remember us in your prayers. P.N."

"Dear Brethren. In few words we would like to inform you that we all are well.

I would like to thank you, for the gift whi'ch I received just before Christmas.

In our Church in Warsaw we experience spiri|tual revival. Young souls accept Lord

Jesus Christ and are baptized into Christ. Ourmission place in Jak. will become
an independent congregation with own preacher, Erwin Karz.
Also there is enough of people in the district of Brudna to organize a church, but
they do not have a place where to worship. Presently they meet in the house of
the deacon Br. Wl. J. Please pray for all of us and help us to get the place of

worship in Brudna. We thank you for your help in spreading the Gospel in Poland
and your vital interest in our work. Yours W.W"

It is hard to visit on foot the members of the church, radio listeners, the sick
and people who need Christ. I try to do my best. If I had a car, my ministry
would be more effective, but I try to do the best I can.

"I do not know how to begin writing this letter to you. I was not interested in
religion and this subject was far away from ray mind, and I was under the influ

ence of other teachings. The other day, when we were having dinner, ray son, age
five, put a question to me: "How do we go to heaven?" and "What is God?" I did
not know what to tell him and he repeated these questions a few times. I

think

there will be more of these questions in the future. On 29th of April, when
I
put the radio on shortwave, your program was on and the message was about
God
and heaven. I listened to the end because I had never heard before such an inte -

resting subject. From that time I regularly listen to this program twice a week
and you are convincing me that I shoud change ny views about ny life,
wife,
son and I listen to your program together and we are very grateful for it.
I

would like to ask you if it is possible toj send me some literature also, if pos
sible, please send me the Holy Scripture because it is difficult to get it
in
our town. Lately I spoke to ny friend and mentioned to him about this program
and he told me he had listened to it for a long time and he had got a small Bi
ble from you. I would willingly pay for one but how can I? and where?
be waiting for a letter from you. B.W."

WHAT A summer!
July 15th after an 11 hours

long flight we landed in Honolulu

where we attended the World Convention of Churches of Christ.

It was a very good convention with lots of good preaching by Bro. F. D. Hag
gard, R.F. Blowers, Th. Benjamim, E. LeRoy Lawson and many others.
There was great congregational singing and very good numbers by many choirs
and the Brass Ensemble from Ozark Bible College.
Very impresive was the final service with the Lord's Supper led by Bro. A.
W. Lee, general secretary of the Convention. I prayed for the cup in Polish
and English.

While in Hawaii we took one week of vacation - the only week this year.
We returned hnmp -Tiily ?Q.
In two days I maneged to look through the corres

Friday Audust 1st, on my birthday, we were on our way to North Carolina for
the wedding of our son,.George who was married to a lovely girl August 2nd.
After the wedding we immediately drove back and arrived home at 2 AM, and by
9 AM I was already in the Boulevard Christian Church in Baltimore where
I
talked during the Sunday School about our Polish ministry and preached du
ring the worship hour.

Another two hectic days and August 6th we wer.e on our .way to Poland.
There we were met by several Christian Friends and for"5 days attended semi

Sunday August 10 I preached at the Warsaw Church of Christ and we had

5. Preachers are very grateful for support which they receive

through
the Department of Missions so they can preach the Gospel freely
without worrying about the support of their families.

Poland is open
for the Gospel and nobody is interfering with the preaching.
In Churches they have Sunday Schools for children. Youth meetings, revivals
and Rallies. They distribute literature freely.

Economy in Poland is..in_ a j)ad s.txape.

The summer was rainy and very cold with

many floods and crops are ruined. There is visible shortage of many things.
We have to come with more help to our Christian friends.
Despite all that our brethren in Poland try to raise over 100,000.00 Zloty
toward Ostroda Project but according my estimation they will be short of a-

THANKSGIVING

CHRISTMAS

Thirty years ago I celebrated ray first Thanksgiving Day on the way to USA from
Europe and in December 1950 I landed in New York City.
With great joy I looked at the Stature of Liberty and walked on free soil
of
America and then celebrated first Christmas in this great coutry of freedom.
I thank God constantly for America, for American Christians who opened their
hearts and accepted me into great fellowship.
I th2[nk God that with your help I was able to become the messenger of Good News
to my people here in USA and also in Poland.

With your prayers and finacial support we were able to restore churches in Poland, give them buildings, Christian Serv ice Camp, Bibles, Christian literatu re, Sunday School material and Songbooks.

Because of you we preach on Radio, give support to 25 preachers, send medicine

and clothing, visit churches in person and preach the Gos(>el. Also we thank God
that we were able to start Slavic Churchi iof Christ in Baltimore.
The work is going on, growing with every iay and we are involved more and more
in this ministry.
After 24 years of theaching at ECC I had to give it up 2 years ago to concentrate entirely on mission work.
Dela, my wife, is engaged from the beginning
Lng in translations of songs, articles
and books. She also writes articles and p aems, edits and condenses many books..
and answers

hundreds of letters.

'

Bro. Winnik, who came to work with us in 1967 was producer of our radio prog -

rams for last 12 years and now he is engaged in cassette ministry, answers

ma-

ny letters and sends out literature.

Our last short trip to Poland in August o this year was very beneficial. We saw
the progress of the Lord's work and greaf need of the Churches.
In Ostroda we are errecting a big multi-pi rpose building. It will contain kitchen, dining hall, fellowship hall for $i rvices, sanitary rooms etc.
After our last appeal we were able to sen(J to Poland S 2,000.00 for development
in Ostroda and S 3,000.00 for the church building in Kolobrzeg.

We need additional S 3,000.00

camp ready by next year.

to finish l:he building

We also need at least $ 3,000.00 to 5,000.00 for

the
ex

pansion of the Church building in Kato\jice. The Church outgrew the present buil
ding.

Brethren in Poland collected over 100,000.00 zloty, but they are still short

of

funds.

In this blessed season of great celebration of Thanksgiving for our freedom,

prosperity and abundance of things and celebration of Christmas, when we
re

ceived the greatest Gift of all, let us help our brethren In Poland in building
the Kingdom of God that they will be free in Christ and have an abundance of

Yours in Christ,

take this opportunity to express our appreciation to George

Bajenski as he has served in the Department of Missions during
the past years,

George and his family have moved to Toronto^ Canada^ where

he

wilt continue to he involved with preparation of the Polish ra

We encourage his supporters to continue their support to him.

Jvte wish George and his family God^s blessing in his new place

STEWARDSHIP AND ACCOUNTABILITY

We believe that there must be credibility at the Department of Missions

if our ministry is to continue to grow. We must demonstrate to you,
our supporting Churches and friends, that we are good stewards of, and
faithfully account for, the monies you have entrusted to us for God's
work among the Polish speaking people.
For this reason, a Guidance Committee composed of twelve (12) men

serves and meets each fall at the offices in Bel Air to carefully
(and prayerfully) review and examine the prior years activities and
financial results.

Each of these men are either ministers or members

(or both) of the Christian Church or Church of Christ and actively

support the work of the Department of Missions.
addresses are set forth below.

The members and their

Under the leadership of Paul Bajko, tlr^e following policies are faithfully
adhered to:

1.

Every decision is carefully reviewed to assure the

best stewardship of the monies expended. The least
expensive method is selected^ even if it means extra
work, so long as the result is expected to be equally
as good.

2.

Strong emphasis is placed upon the stewardship of

time realizing that there is much yet to be done

that "time is money"

for Christ and also the fact

and we are equally accountab e for our time, as well

as our financial resources.
For example, each

Polish preacher is reviewed and evaluated annually

by Paul Bajko personally before his living link

support is determined for th^ ensuing year.

This

evaluation is done for all Polish preachers even.

though 10 of the 21 receive ^ving link direct

from supporting Churches.

3.

'

The books and records undergo a certified audit

annually, which is conducted by Coughlin & Mann,

Certified Public Accountants! of Bel Air, Maryland.

A copy of this audit will be furnished promptly

upon request.

The Guidance Committee believes

that this audit is a necessity in order to show our
