Physiology

Right after the implantation of fertilized ovum, the embryonic cells starts to produce/secrete HCG
The rise of HCG causes the corpus luteum to be maintained along with the secretion of estrogen and progesterone
The production of estrogen and progesterone increases as the placenta increases in size
The estrogen and progesterone now function as:
a. Stimulates and maintain the development of uterus
b. Inhibits the production of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and leutenizing hormone (LH)
c. Stimulates the development of the mammary gland
d. The progesterone inhibits uterine contraction
e. The estrogen causes the enlargement of the reproductive organs
Relaxin from corpus luteum inhibits uterine contraction and relaxes pelvic ligaments
The placenta secretes lactogen that stimulates breast development
Aldosterone promotes reabsorption of sodium
The parathyroid hormone helps maintain high maternal concentration of calcium
