attacked.
EuropeanPlantersrespondedbyincreasingtherentandevicting
farmers.Ledtomoreagitationsandconfrontations.
Latergotsupportfromtheintelligentsia,press,missionariesandMuslims.
Result:GovernmentissuedanotificationthattheIndianfarmerscannot
becompelledtogrowindigoandthatitwouldensurethatalldisputes
weresettledbylegalmeans.Bytheendof1860,Indigoplantersshould
downtheirfactoriesandcultivationofindigowasvirtuallywipedoutfrom
Bengal.

ButaftertheendofWW2(1945)peasantleadersanticipatefreedomand
newsocialorder.Hencenewmovementswithrenewedvigour.
EarlierkisanmovementsusuallydidntdemandabolitionofZamindari.
Theymerelywantedafairsystemoflandrevenueandlandtenancy.But
thesenewmovementsstronglydemandedforabolitionofZamindari.
Evenwhentheywereunsuccessful,theycreatedaclimatewhich
necessitatedthepostindependencelandreformsandabolitionof
Zamindari.
Earliermovementswerebyandlargenonviolent.Butnowtheyturned
militante.g.TelanganamovementinHyderabadstateandtheTebhaga
movementinBengal.SimilarlyAllIndiaKisanSabhaopenlypreached
militancy,violanceagainstZamindars.
