Sealing water filters and pumps test run

1. Documentation
All the documentation corresponding at the mechanical end of erection was passed at MdP. In return we
have a short punch list from MdP to follow. There are not major problem for the start up.
2. DCS-Checking
We made rotation test in direct from the MCC with a successful result.
The profibus communication cable between MCC and DCS is already done.
There still a communication problem between DCS and MCC. Problem with the configuration of the ABB
soft starter PST 300. Honeywell and Andrtiz need to review this item before the start of the operation.
For the moment we cant proof the manual start / stop from the DCS.
Checking will be done before test run.
It has been agreed that changing the control valve LCV-1573 to MAN position when the pump is in
operation does NOT stop the pump.
It is important to test the closing velocity of the control valve LCV-1573 so that is it not too fast and will
cause water hammer. This can cause problems to the ion-exchangers and the heat exchangers that are
located before the sealing water pumps.
The sealing water pumps shall be started and stopped from the RB DCS screen. DEMI screen shall show the
operation status of the pumps.
3. Lock outs of valves and equipment.
Isolation of the area with red marks operation
Valves will be closed in DGT Area with blue card and physical lock:
0171-120-200 / 0172-119-300 / 0179-118-300
Before the test run the motors 252-26-773 and 256-26-774 (this motor will not be ready for this milestone)
should be locked by Andritz and Degremont in the MCC (correct two lock will be necessary).
When the sealing water system will be taken into operation the operated equipment and motors will be
will be locked by MdP. (according to mill commissioning standard)
4. Sealing Water line Pressurization
Before to start the sequence we prefer fill all the line from cooling tower basin to Andrtiz valve with just the
cooling tower pumps. Pressure in the pipe 5bar.
We this step we will be sure that there is no more leaks in any parts of the pipe.

5. Testing Sequence
Check that vacuum breaker ball valves are open on the pipe bridge (505-31-5070 and 5076)

Cooling tower pump 405-26-101 or 102 is ready for operation.

All valves at the water filter 256-20-050 closed. (0169-007-040/0170-007-040/0168-007-040)
The vent valve filter open (before 256-PSV-5072)
All valves before and after the sealing water pump closed (DGT code 0176-118-300 / 0178-118-300)
Valve 252-31-1831, 1847, 1849 and LCV-1573 100 % open. This is to prevent water hammer effects
caused by objects plugging a partially closed control valve
Sealing tank drain valve closed and outlet valves 2233 and 1850 closed.
Start cooling tower pump 101 or 102
If running pump 102 then open hand valve 50%. If running pump 102 open automatic valve
completely.
open valve to filter slowly (DGT Arthur check what say in operation manual of filter for first use /
not particular operation just be sure that there is no more air and open very slowly the entrance of
the filter)
open valve to suction side of sealing water pump (0176-118-300)
Open slowly pressure side valve of the sealing water pump. (0178-118-300)
After line has been pressurized then close pressure side valve of sealing water pump
Start sealing water pump (256-26-773) from DCS
Open the hand valve on the pressure side of the sealing water pump very slowly. Check flow from
FI-1576
When dirt and bottles have come out then the line can be pressure tested. This will be done by
closing valve 1847 slowly manually.
After the pressure test has been successful then the tank can be filled and also the level control can
be tested.
Before turning off the sealing water pump the control valve is closed manually.
To test the start stop sequence first time the valve at the outlet of the pump should be closed to
avoid unnecessary water hammer. If the test is successful then the test can be done with all hand
valves 100 open.
