Theroutesneedtobesuitableforthepersonsorvehiclesusingthem,insuitablepositionsand
sufficientinnumberandsize.
Thetermvehiclesincludes:cars,vans,lorries,lowloadersandmobileplantsuchasexcavators,
lifttrucksandsitedumpersetc.
Thekeymessageis:constructionsitevehicleincidentscanandshouldbepreventedbythe
effectivemanagementoftransportoperationsthroughouttheconstructionprocess.

membersofthepubliccanallbeatrisk.
Inadequateplanningandcontrolistherootcauseofmanyconstructionvehicleaccidents.

Keepingpedestriansandvehiclesapart
Themajorityofconstructiontransportaccidentsresultfromtheinadequateseparationof
pedestriansandvehicles.
Thiscanusuallybeavoidedbycarefulplanning,particularlyatthedesignstage,andby
controllingvehicleoperationsduringconstructionwork.
Thefollowingactionswillhelpkeeppedestriansandvehiclesapart:
Entrancesandexitsprovideseparateentryandexitgatewaysforpedestriansand
vehicles
Walkwaysprovidefirm,level,welldrainedpedestrianwalkwaysthattakeadirectroute

pointwheredriversandpedestrianscanseeeachotherclearly
Visibilitymakesuredriversdrivingoutontopublicroadscanseebothwaysalongthe
footwaybeforetheymoveontoit
Obstructionsdonotblockwalkwayssothatpedestrianshavetostepontothevehicle

withoutauthority.Accesstovehiclesshouldbemanagedandpeoplealertedtotherisk.
