Through a combination of plenary lectures, small group interactive sessions


and hands-on workshops, participants will review current issues, guidelines
and trends in the management of patients presenting to the emergency
department in rural hospitals.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
The intent of the conference is to provide learners the opportunity to:
develop and enhance their assessment, investigation and treatment skills for
urgent and emergency patients presenting to the emergency department in
rural hospitals
identify patients who can be optimally managed in a rural setting and those
who require transfer to a larger centre
exchange ideas and information with other rural health professionals during
shared learning experiences

The new course co-chairs for 2016 will briefly discuss the
importance of engaging medical/nursing students and
residents into the community of rural practitioners from their
initial exposure to rural medicine.

The cause of agitated confusion can sometimes be traced


back to medications or other chemical agents how do
you discern the role of toxicity as a factor for agitation, and
when is it important to order STAT drug screens for agitated
patients in the ED?

Each concurrent workshop is 55 minutes long with 15 minutes
for travel to the next session lunch is 1225 to 1315.

GROUP B sessions are restricted to members of the identified


health discipline. By their nature, these sessions are limited
capacity therefore participants may attend a maximum of two
Group B sessions.

Concurrent workshop sessions have been designed for


physicians/nurse practitioners, nurses or both
(multi-disciplinary).

Sessions will be held at the Banff Park Lodge and the Mineral
Springs Hospital (located next to the hotel). NOTE A short
walk between the two venues in winter conditions may be
required.

GROUP A sessions are designed for the identified health


professionals, although other disciplines are welcome to
attend.

will explore physician health and wellness as it pertains to

and death! The new provincial policy changes for procedural
sedation will also be discussed.

concentrated hands-on practice with airway adjuncts.

confidence for nurses who attend deliveries in the absence of
the doctor or the midwife. Topics include obstetrical scenarios

COURSE CANCELLATION POLICY


The Office of Continuing Medical Education and Professional
Development reserves the right to cancel the course if there
are insufficient registrations.
CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION
For on-line registration, registrant will receive an automatic
confirmation email right after the registration.
For paper-based (faxed or mailed) registration, confirmation of
registration will be in the form of a mailed tax receipt. No other
confirmation message will be sent. Please allow 2 weeks for
registration processing.
REFUND POLICY
A registration refund will be made upon written request no
later than 10 business days prior to the course. However $50
will be retained for administrative costs. No refund will be made
for cancellation after the 10th business day prior to the course.
NOTE Refunds are processed only on the return of original
receipt. All receipts must be returned within 30 days after
program date.
