Pad Eye Calculation

according to DNV 2.7-3

Perform pad eye verification for Tool Basket main frame. The basket is designed to be lifted with
four-legged sling set with maximum sling angle from vertical equal to 30. The maximum gross
weight (MGW) to be considered is 5000 kg.
Tool Basket operational class is R30, there is no significant out of plane loading. Sling lengths are
adequately controlled and CoG (Center of gravity) is located under lifting point.
Dimensions of pad eye are presented in the figure below:

calculate Design Load for lifting

calculate Resultant Sling Force (RSF)
calculate allowance for out of plane sling force
calculate minimum Working Load Limit (WLL) for the shackle
choose shackle with appropriate WLL and dimensions from
catalogue (you can use Greenpin for example)
check pad eyes geometry requirements according to DNV 2.73, sec. 3.8.4
check capacity of pad eyes base assuming that whole base
transfers the load, include bending of pad eye due to RSF inline
component and out of plane component for allowance
calculated in pt. 3
check bearing stress in pad eyes hole
check tear out capacity of pad eyes hole
