PROGRAM DIRECTOR
REPORTS TO:
CAMP DIRECTOR



Camp Mountain Chai, based in San Diego, CA is an independent, residential Jewish summer camp and is
part of the Jewish Community Camp Association. CMC believes in professional development, creating
and implementing a vision, teamwork and mentorship. We are looking for someone who can continue
to grow with our campers and staff.

Camp Mountain Chai is looking for a third full-time professional to complete its leadership team. CMC is
looking for someone who loves camp traditions, sing downs, final banquet, Shabbat at camp, screaming
at the top of their lungs, making friends for life, grilled cheese and tomato soup, and transforming lives.

Qualifications:
Must possess a BA or higher degree
3-5 years minimum experience with a background in the Jewish camp industry or related youth
work
Excellent communication, non-verbal, verbal and written skills with an ability to reach all age
groups and stakeholders in an inspiring fashion
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel, Word)
Willing to see themselves as an educator and a learner
Must be highly organized and responsible
Must be confident in conflict management and problem solving

Summary of Responsibilities:
The Camp Mountain Chai Program Director is a part of the year-round professional camp management
team that assists in creating the vision, design, and implementation of the
Camp Mountain Chai experience for campers and their families.

This person assists in the overall management of the camping program and is involved in the
development of year-round programming, both on and off-site. The Program Director is the on-site off-
season retreat coordinator and educator, and a member of the summer senior management team.

Responsibilities Include:
1. Off-Season camp retreat coordinator
Develops educational programming and hires staff for retreats.
Assists in planning and development of current & new off-season camp programs.

2. Camper Recruitment
Assists the Assistant Director in coordinating administrative and marketing functions for all
camper recruitment, including camp fairs, community events, synagogue and school
presentations, and home visits.
Manages partnerships with all relevant JCC Day Camps for both summer and off-season
programs, existing and future, including the oversight of summer day camp group visits.

3. Camper Retention
Oversees the administration, marketing, and implementation of the annual CMC reunion.
Oversees the administration, marketing, and implementation of mini-reunions in other
catch cities (Phoenix, Tucson, Inland Empire, etc.)

Creates and implements new ways to engage current campers year-round both in-person
and online.
Maintains an engaging and interactive online presence for current campers, including the
camp website, Facebook, Instagram and other forms of social media.


4. American Camp Association (ACA) Point-Person
Conducts annual review and update of ACA materials
Works with the Director to communicate and implement operational changes due to ACA
requirements
Every third year, assists the director in the accreditation process through site visit

5. Communication
Facilitates publishing of a fall and spring edition of the camp newsletter, with creative and
engaging content geared toward the multiple constituencies of parents, campers, alumni,
and staff.
Manages the Camp Mountain Chai website as a recruitment and retention tool, and a vehicle to
engage camp alumni.

6. Summer Senior Management (exact role to be determined in spring 16)
Participates in the day-to-day management and operation of summer program.
Develops the summer program calendar with all special programs and dates
Ultimate responsibility of all evening and special programs.
Responsible for approval and review of requisitions, supplies, and equipment in accordance with
the camps purchasing procedures.
Ensure that all camp programs are camper-centered and involve campers in an informal
learning process
Ensure that all evening programs are well planned, organized and have specific goals to achieve
Offer the opportunity for staff to become involved in a variety of camp programming
Supervision and development of program and specialty areas
As part of summer senior management team, oversees the well-being and care of all
campers and staff.
Plans and executes staff programming and enrichment.

Other Responsibilities:
Acts as positive role model for campers and staff year-round
Participates as an active, positive member of the CMC staff team
Seeks out innovation and creativity at all times
Lives on-site at Camp Mountain Chai during the summer camp season (Typically June-Aug)
Attends professional development conferences and programs
