BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

A college strengthens its educational level through the advancement of

the library system. The STI College Global City Library System aimed to
enhance the procedures of the library, from manually operated to a high
level system. This proposals purpose was to ease the transactions in the
library, i.e., lending of books, storing books, search engine for books,
manage members of the library and secure the library system. The
librarian and the library users still use the manual way of transacting of
borrowing and returning of books. The librarian uses log books in listing
books. Users of the system, still uses library cards and card catalogues in
searching for reading and reference materials.
1.1

Company Background
STI COLLEGE GLOBAL CITY is built 6 years ago, at first the

library is located on 3rd floor and has no proper management. Now, the
STI Global citys library is located at the 6 th floor of STI Global Building.
They currently had the system called MABINI SYSTEM that is being
used to manage all the records and transactions that is being done on
the library.
The library also had software for bibliography thats called the
OPAC (Online public access catalog) this system is an online
bibliography collection that is open for all the proponents using the
library. The hardware that the library using is desktop for handling the
two system and a printer to provide output for the system.
I.2 Business Process
The current system had problems in terms of the transactions. Like
lagging and errors. Furthermore, the records in the last semester return
into the system even the system is deleted. In recording the
returned/borrowed books the system is not that accurate to handle
transactions twice at the same time.

The students didnt take care much of the computers, inserting of

flash drives, search things thats not related to educational purposes.
Thats why the computer had been infected by viruses.
Some books are limited only, the library didnt have enough
stocks. Thats why some students find it difficult to search what for
books that they need.

Statement of the Problem

2.1 General Problem
The general problem of the Library system in STI College Global
City is that the system are not updated. The system would be more
efficient if the library will use is more specific for the type of
transactions that the library is handling.

II.2 Specific Problem

Slow file transaction in terms of borrowing and searching of the

books.
Hard to manage data from the borrowers.
Not detailed produced reports.
The time and effort of listing and write the details of a book.

III.

Objective of the Study

3.1 General objective
The objective of the study is to develop a more organized library
system that will store the students record such as students basic
information, books record, and list of borrowers, returned books,
borrowed books and prescriptions of the librarian.
3.2 Specific Objective
To be specific, attempted to satisfy the following objectives:

IV.

To design a system that will lessen he tome and effort of the

student in their transaction
To quickly search the book needed by the student of the library
To print out reports immediately

Significance of the Study

The significance of the study is to help and give a benefit to the
concerned group below.

Students
Through a computerized Library System, the student can easily
find the books that the student are looking for without going through the
traditional way of searching a library material. Convenience is more
visible for it is not time-consuming, resulting to a number of
accomplished works.

Librarian
The computerized Library system would improve the monitoring
capacities of those who maintain the library. The system would be
easier to determine whether a particular book is on shelf or not. In
addition, the librarian can easily identify when the borrowed material
will be returned and if a borrower has failed to return the book on its
due date. Furthermore, the librarian would be much guided when it
comes to recognizing new inventory books, letting them arrange it
promptly and accordingly.
School
The Computerized Library system is to provide quality data in
the school in a timely fashion through system that are completely
integrated. This will provide opportunities for operational efficiency.

V.

Scope and Limitations

The study was about the library System for the STI College Global City.
The implementation of the system will reduce the time and effort of the

users in terms of adding, editing, searching, deleting and printing of

records. The System can also help in reducing the expenses of the library
such as papers, folders, pens and other material needed in their current
system
The students personal information may be stored upon the request of
authorized librarian. The assigned librarians are the only one who can
share records of the students.
The limit of the system is, the system is not LAN-Based. The database
that the system has is can only be access by the computer that the system
alone. The system is not capable of sharing data to other system. The
database that the system has is made only for the system itself.

VI.

Methodology of the Study

The

Researcher

decided

to

use

the

spiral

model

as

methodology because the researcher proposal is about the library system

in STI Global City. Spiral model is the best for large and complicated
projects, because the system combines the features of the prototyping
model and waterfall model. The researchers searched of the best
methodology for the system. The researchers study all the possible
processes that the system may done. After analyzing those processes, the

researchers conclude that the spiral methodology is the best methodology

for the system.
Researchers will defines the old system requirements and new system
requirements, new design will be created for the new system. Researchers
construct the new system from the initial design of the first system. In
spiral model, the estimation of the schedule becomes more realistic as in
work progresses because of the questions that have been raised. Easier
to cope with the changes, inherent to software development. A drawback
of the spiral model is the estimates budget of the project since the
requirements evolve through the process.
