WLC Graduation
The Warrior Leader
Course (W LC) is a
month-long course that
trains Specialists,
Corporals, and
Sergeants in the
fundamentals of
leadership. The course
curriculum includes
instruction in Leadership
Skills, Training Skills
and Warfighting Skills.
Upon completion, the
graduates
are awarded
.
the NCO Professional
Development Ribbon.
Speaking of graduates;
Officers, NonCommissioned Officers,

and fellow Soldiers

celebrated the
graduation of the most
recent Warrior Leader
Course class at Camp
Buehring on August 13,
2015. SGT Kamisha
Mitchell and CPL Bryan
Singler, both from 217th
MP CO, were
congratulated as they
completed the task set
before them to become
successful
noncommissioned
officers in todays Army.
The course was hard
core as well as
intensive, but that did

not stop achievement

from being met. All in all,
W LC is the first step
along the long,
challenging path of NCO
Professional
Development. It is the
starting point to build the
professional education
and physical fitness
foundation for their
future as a professional
NCO. Techniques and
procedures learned
during the early years of
their career will be the
basis for future growth
and success. Again,
congratulations!

Soldier of the Month

SPC John Pate has
been instrumental in
conducting the surge
mission during July
and August through
his strong work ethic
and attention to detail
during all parts of the
Customs inspection
process. His tact and
ability to effectively
communicate
instructions to Soldiers
of the inspected unit
during the movement
and inspection of over
250 vehicles,
containers and heavy

equipment worth
millions of dollars. SPC
Pates superior work
ethic and resilience in
the face of often 24
hour operations set the
example for his peers
to follow, ensuring
success of the mission
and timely movement
out of theater for the
inspected units
equipment. All the
mean-time SPC Pate
still found time to
complete his Soldier
professional
development or SSD,

and continue improving

his physical fitness. He
is looked to by his peers
as a subject matter
expert on weight
training and openly
shares his knowledge
with his peers on a daily
basis.

MACP!
This past month several of the
soldiers from the 217th MP Co
attended the Level 1 course of the
Modern Arm y Combatives Program
(MACP). The mission of the U.S.
Army Combatives School is To
train Leaders and Soldiers in close
quarters Combatives in order to
instill the Warrior Ethos and
prepare Soldiers to close with and
defeat the enemy in hand to hand
combat. The Combatives course
was started in 1995 within the 2 nd
Ranger Battalion and since then
has spread throughout the Army.
Soldiers attended a one week
grueling course where they were
taught submissions, chokes, and
basic striking. This following month
soldiers that have completed Level
1 will be afforded the opportunity to
attend Level 2, where training will
continue and be more intense with
actual contact amongst peers.

Rifles or Ruffles?
Remember the feeling of wanting
to know what was under the
Christmas tree as a child? How
about wondering what you were
getting for your birthday? There
was feeling of wonder and
excitement that for some was
unbearable and could not wait. I
can only imagine that feeling of
desire and anticipation for a waiting
father to find out if he was having a
little boy or a baby girl. For lack of
a better term, thats the feeling that
2nd Platoons Sgt. Chette Jenkins
was feeling at the gender reveal
party thrown for him by 1st Squad

and close friends. Those in

attendance, waited anxiously, for
the unveiling of revealing the
gender. His closest friend Sgt.
Gregory Thomas was the only one
that knew the answer and wasnt
going to give it up easy. With the
help of the squad he hid the
answer in one of twenty balloons
and gave him a handful of darts.
The first dart was a direct hit to a
balloon that revealed nothing but
more anticipation. Dart two, a slight
miss and only inches away from
the one that held it all. Luckily for
him the old saying, the third times

a charm proved true and with a

loud pop of out-pouring of pink
confetti told him that he was soon
to be the proud father of a little girl.
Congratulations to the future little
Jenkins and know you have an
entire family of Alabama
Guardsmen that will always be
there for you.

Commanders Corner

Friends and Family of the 217th MP Company,

Your Soldiers are continuing to perform superbly in their duties here in the Middle East. Many of them
are acting in a capacity that is truly above their rank and paygrade, and their efforts have not gone
unnoticed. In October, the new Staff Sergeant and Sergeant promotion lists comes out. Several of our
Sergeants and Specialists will be on this list and eligible for promotion and I look forward to reading about
these in our next issue. Your Soldiers continue to be adaptable, professional and dynamic in carrying out
their duties. This has allowed the unit to become more flexible and provide greater support to US Army
operations in the entire Middle East. My boss, LTC Klauman just recently bragged on the unit by stating
that we easily operate in the top 3rd of units he has ever overseen. I consider this a great compliment and
it starts with the Soldiers at the bottom doing their job and doing it well.

Sincerely,
Nathaniel W. Slaten
Captain, US Army
Commanding
