MATH 112 Project Output for the Prelim Period

At the end of the prelim period, you should be able to work with at most four (4) of your
classmates to use the concepts of right triangles in an outdoor math activity. The students will be
provided with an activity sheet to help them with the accomplishment of the project.
PART 1: SITE IDENTIFICATION
DEADLINE: DECEMBER 13, 2013 UNTIL 1PM AT COS 100D
1. Together with your groupmates look for at least three objects like a tree or a building or
any structure inside the DLSU-D which can be a possible object of your study. Keep in
mind that you will be measuring dimensions (like the length, width ,height, etc. ) of the
chosen object of study later.
2. Take a picture of the chosen object and have it developed (3R size)
3. Accomplish worksheet #1.
4. Submit 1 printed copy and 1 photocopy of the accomplished worksheet on the deadline
set by your subject teacher. The photocopy will serve as your receiving copy and can be
used for your reference in the next stage of the project preparation.

PART 2: DATA COLLECTION

1. Decide which among your three chosen objects will be used in the study.
2. Accomplish worksheet #2. You may use the guide for finding the angle of the elevation of
the sun given below.
How to find the angle of elevation of the sun
Materials to be used:
A wooden stick, a tape measure or ruler
Procedure:
1. Place the wooden stick in front of the object of study. The stick must be perpendicular to
the ground.
2. Measure the length of the stick and also the length of the shadow of the stick.
3. Compute for the angle of elevation of the sun using the tangent function. Use the
information obtained to find the height of the object of study.
