Transknowlogy
Transknowlogy represents the 2.0 phase of the education revolution in learning where the bestofbreed technologies
are implemented across all levels of the organization to support all stakeholders: administrators, professors and most
importantly students.

This concept and approach is the capstone of the underlying method and philosophy of SMC University. In today's
world knowledge and education are experiencing a tremendous change. Technology is opening up new possibilities
for students from around the world and all walks of life to explore options that were unavailable even a few short
years ago.

At SMC University we managed to create an unique environment of knowledgetransfer that connects people, culture
and organizations in a way that permits the creation of new possibilities. Traditional education limits the reach of
technology to campus borders. Transknowlogy offers the stage to develop your visions and enable you to become a
part of the new global learning context as a dedicated, target driven knowledge seeking individual.

Transknowlogy

Through transknowlogy students are empowered to learn, grow and excel. Transknowlogy enables students to push
their limits to new levels under an environment supported by an extended use of technology, both inside the classroom
and within the overall setting of the University. This provides a new level of highly diversified cultural exchange between
the multiple nationalities that enables you feel the pulse of the global business context.

Global Citizenship and Transknowlogy

In today's global environment, understanding your organization's position with regards to the issues of Corporate
Citizenship and Corporate Social Responsibility is paramount to working in concert with the common good and global
commons. SMC University prides itself in its achievements in assisting students from around the globe and within a
multitude of cultures to advance scholastically. They, their families and their communities may fulfill their collective
dreams and partake fully in global society on an equal footing with others.
This achievement is nothing short of empowering individuals and communities from all cultures to become active
participants in the development of the planet and to find ecological and sustainable practices that take into
consideration the rich cultural heritage of all societies. At SMC we consider fulfilling this responsibility as the underlying
motivator to designing and developing the very best in distance education. It is through Transknowlogy that this
becomes reality.

SMC Student Council Distance Learning Focus

In distance education, the process of student learning is more complex than conventional educational settings for
several reasons:
Many distance education students are older, have jobs and families. They must coordinate the different areas of
their lives which influence each other their families, jobs, spare time and studies.
Distant students have a variety of reasons for taking courses. Some students are interested in obtaining a degree
to qualify for a better job. Many take courses to broaden their education and are not really interested in completing
a degree.
In distance education, the learner is usually isolated. The motivational factors arising from the contact or
competition with other students is absent. The student also lacks the immediate support of a teacher who is
present and able to motivate and, if necessary, give attention to actual needs and difficulties that crop up during
study.
In distance education settings, technology is typically the channel through which information and communication
flow. Until the teacher and students become comfortable with the technical delivery system, communication will
be inhibited.

The Student Council provides several benefits

Guidance to new students entering SMC, providing them with an enhanced sense of orientation and
organizational structure.
A point of reference for individual students who wish to put forward ideas, suggestions or concerns.
Mutual understanding and support to overcome potential challenges resulting from the complexity that distance
learning brings to students in the learning process.
