The Altaeros BAT or also known as the Buoyant Airborne Turbine has multiple uses.
Some of the major uses for the new discovery have been identified as for communication and
wind energy. These uses are extremely beneficial to both everyday people as well as companies.
Within one of the cables that run to the ground it has enough electricity to fully power more than
a dozen homes. In terms of communication these high altitude balloons have the capability of
elevating cell phone towers or regular land line cables to higher altitudes to allow a further radius
of for cell reception. Wind power is one of the cleanest and most natural forms of energy
produced along with solar power and natural gas. Research has proven that by the year 2030
more than 317 million MWh will be produced. To try not to over complicate things the higher
altitude you reach the faster the wind speeds will be due to the a decrease in density which
increases velocity. As many people have noticed many wind turbines dont always move due to
the fact that there is little or no wind. By increasing the height of the wind turbine or in our case
the balloon to heights between 1000 and 2000 feet, where 2000 feet is the maximum, will
increase the wind velocity significantly. The BAT has been aerodynamically designed using
industrial fabrics filled with helium to lift the turbine and allow it to be stabilized in the air. The
wind turbine that is placed in the center of the turbine has been designed to be lightweight and
small to be able to allow for more rotations which allows for more energy produced and
transferred. It is held up by multiple light weight tethers that transfer the energy produced by the
turbine down to the ground station where it is distributed throughout a community.
Conclusion:
As I mentioned previously, my main points of the discovery have been focused on the
benefits of the BAT in terms of wind energy and communication. I also discussed the conditions
in which the BAT will be placed in, in terms of higher altitudes and how they produce a higher
wind speed which translates to more energy as well as the design to stabilize based on the wind
to allow for more wind. I would like to thank everyone for watching and listening to this great
discovery I have researched. If anyone has any questions about the Altaeros BAT dont hesitate
to ask me and I will do more research to get you the answer you are looking.
