Check CT/i Modem is Available

Insure that a unique Internet Address is available for the CT/i InSite Modem.
HiSpeed CT/i has made a change to the way the OnLine Centers communicate with
the scanner. In the past the protocols used to communicate with the scanner where
based upon standard/special serial protocols and special security access controls.
HiSpeed CT/i makes use of a Point to Point Protocol (PPP) to communicate with the
OnLine Centers. The PPP allows standard TCP/IP connectivity tools to be used as if
the modem connection where part of a TCP/IP based network. In addition, multiple
levels of access security are used to insure that unauthorized users cannot get into
the system.
For PPP to work correctly for the InSite connection, a unique IP address must be
assigned to either the CT/i modem or to the SGI computer gateway.

Upgrade20

Note 1

If the Host Computer (GENESIS) had a second ethernet board to connect as a

gateway to the facilities network and had unique IP addresses assigned by the
facilities Network Administrator, then that number may be used for the SGI Host
Computer IP Gateway Address and may also be used for the Modem IP Address.

Note 2

If the Host Computer (GENESIS) does not have a Unique IP address assigned by
the facilities Network Administrator, then a unique number for the InSite Modem can
be obtained from the OnLine Center during the InSite Connection CheckOut.

REMOVE GENESIS CONSOLE

(1) Disconnect the cables from the GENESIS Operators Console.
DANGER

FAILURE TO DISCONNECT THE GENESIS CONSOLE POWER CORD AT THE

PDU COULD RESULT IN A SHOCK WHEN THE SYSTEM IS TURNED BACK ON.
(2) Disconnect the GENESIS Console power cable from the PDU.
(3) Tape up the Console end of the old power cord or remove the cord from the
conduit or duct.
(4) Remove the trim covers over the Console Stabilizer Leg hardware on one side of
the console and remove the hardware.

DANGER

REMOVAL OF THE HARDWARE THAT ATTACHES THE GENESIS CONSOLE TO

THE FLOOR OR RISERS IN THE NEXT STEP MAKES THE GENESIS CONSOLE
LESS STABLE AND EASIER TO KNOCK OVER.
WE RECOMMENDED THAT YOU ATTACH THE CONSOLE SHIPPING DOLLIES
TO THE CONSOLE BEFORE YOU REMOVE ANY OF THE CONSOLE
ANCHORING HARDWARE.
(5) Remove GENESIS Console Floor anchors if the console is attached to the floor
or remove anchors that attach the console to the risers.
(6) Move the GENESIS Console to a location that will allow access to the hardware
that attaches the stabilizer legs.
(7) Attach the GENESIS Console Shipping Dolly and Fischpaper provided in the
Upgrade Kit to the side of the console that the stabilizer leg was just removed
from.
(8) Remove the trim covers over the Console Stabilizer Leg hardware on the other
side of the console and remove the hardware.
(9) Attach the GENESIS Console Shipping Dolly and Fischpaper provided in the
Upgrade Kit to the side of the console that the stabilizer leg was just removed
from.

Remove CT/i Console from Skid

(1) Raise the CT/i Console off of the shipping skid using the adjustable dolly casters.

Raise the console enough to clear the wood blocking attached to the shipping
skid.

Roll the console away from the shipping skid.

(2) Move the console to very near its final position. Do not lower the console to the
floor yet!

Note 5

Even though the CT/i Console has internal casters, use the Shipping Dollies to move
the console any significant distance.
The larger diameter casters on the shipping dollies make it easier to move over door
and elevator thresholds and cause less shock to the console.
(3) Install the Console Stabilizer Leg Leveling Pads before lowering the Console to
the floor. See Illustration 14.

Illustration 14
CONSOLE STABILIZER PAD INSTALLATION

Screw the pads all the way into the Stabilizer Legs.
After the console has been placed in its final position lower the pads so that the
console does not rock forward.

Adjust Table Top Height and Console Placement

The Console should have arrived with the Monitor top mounted, starting with the
fourth bolt from the bottom. The Keyboard Table Top should be attached starting
with the third hole from the bottom. This arrangement will provide for optimum
operator comfort.

Note 6

Your site may require the console to be adjusted from this position.
The important factor in setting the height is operator visibility of the patient being
scanned. If you need to adjust from this starting position keep the relationship of
mounting the Keyboard Table Top one hole lower then the Console Table Top, see
Illustration 16 for clarification.

SECTION 4
SYSTEM POWER AND GROUND GUIDELINES
This section provides reference information used to insure a good
power installation for the system.
At this point, you MUST physically inspect the System Power and Ground
Connections per the following:

The system should have a dedicated ground. The ground wire should originate at
the supplying transformer and shall have no secondary ground connected to it
until the ground bar in our PDU.

The system ground wire should be copper and sized equal to or larger than the 3
phase supply wires, with a minimum size of AWG 1/0. The ground wire should
take the same physical path (conduit) as the supply wires.

The ground wire impedance from the system disconnect, including the ground
rod, shall not have an impedance greater than 2 ohms to earth.

The neutral from the 480 volt system should never be brought into the PDU.
3 phase wires, power cables, neutrals, and grounds should be routed in the
same conduit or raceway duct. These cables must not be routed in the same
conduit or raceway duct as system control cables.
CAUTION

Check all the ground connections on the system for tightness and proper
termination. Check ground connection at the supply transformer. Check
ground from transformer to its earth connection.

SECTION 6
COMPUTER INTEGRATION

DEFINITIONS
Boot Level
This is the software level where no software is running other than what can be run out of
CPU firmware. On GENESIS this was often referred to as Prom Monitor or Boot
Prompt.
Operating System Level (Irix)
This is the software level in between Boot Level and Applications Level. In GENESIS,
this was often referred to as the Unix or Operating System level. The HiSpeed CT/i
system will normally start and login as user ctuser leaving the User Interface ready for
selection of Irix Commands or startup of the Scanner Applications Software.
Applications Level
This is the software level where the Scanner specific software has been initialized and
the system could be used to: scan, archive, display, film, network, etc...

6.1

Introduction
This section describes the reconfig, options installation and touch monitor calibration for
a HiSpeed CT/i System which has had the operating system, platform and diagnostic
software previously loaded.

6.3

DIRECTION 2159823100

Requirements/Assumptions:
(1) All stations in a suite must have the same SUITE ID.
(2) The name of all hosts in the suite and their respective Internet/Ethernet numbers.
(3) The first time a reconfig is executed on the system the following information is
needed: Internet (IP) addresses. If the system is to be connected to a network
contact your system administrator to obtain the IP address for the computers in the
suite. If the system is standalone (not connected to any network) the default
internet numbers can be used.
CAUTION

6.4

This procedure instructs the operator to REGEN DATABASE

when executing a reconfig. This is required during the initial
installation or Upgrade of a System because the Databases are
not compatible due to the load/duplication processes used by
Manufacturing to create these disks. During an initial Installation
or Upgrade it is assumed that disks do not contain any
Calibration or Image Data. The reconfig process, as described
in this procedure, will destroy any Image or Calibration Data that
exists on the System. If a reconfig must be executed to change
Site Specific parameters it is strongly recommended that all Info,
Image and Calibration Data be saved on Tape to avoid possible
loss.

The monitors normally have a blank area to the left and right of the display,
to maintain the correct aspect ratio.

6.19.4

Set Monitor Color Temperature

(1) Reference the monitor manual and select the 6500K color temperature.

6.19.5

Monitor Brightness and Contrast Setup

Color monitors have a lower light output than black and white monitors. Take care when you adjust
the monitor brightness & contrast on CT/i systems.
If the operators tell you they think the image on the monitor looks softer than the image on the film,
and they like the film, adjust the monitor Brightness and Contrast to compensate for its lower light
output. Use the following procedure to adjust the monitor Brightness and Contrast, until the operator
sees the anatomical structure (window width) at the expected window levels.
(1) Adjust the ambient room light to the level used by the operator during image
review.
(2) Display the Image Works desktop.
(3) Display the SMPTE pattern:

Use the browser to select Exam 1000, which contains the SMPTE pattern,
and enlarge the image to full screen display.
or
(a) Select the Service Desktop
(b) Select |Trouble Shooting|
(c) Select |Display Processing|
(d) Select |Install SMPTE|
(4) Increase the Contrast to maximum.
(5) Increase the Brightness to maximum.

SYSTEM CALIBRATION
All Calibrations plus nnumber correction must be performed to insure optimum image quality.

The QCal procedure must be run before calibration and scanning can begin.
Performing a QCal destroys all old phantom CALS. The following warmups, etc. should
be strictly observed:

The DAS should have power turned ON for at least 2 hours before calibrating.
A very cold tube is required. There should be no exposures for at least one and
one half hours before QCal is started (this also means no tube warmup).
Tests that do not interfere with tube cooling will be completed during this wait.

Verify that the mylar window is centered on the patient alignment lights. If the
mylar window is not properly centered, one of the metal bands of the mylar
window assembly could be shading the detector, causing QCal to fail.
