This material has not been tested for ecotoxicity. Fish appear to be
relatively tolerant of chromium, but chromium compounds are quite
toxic to some aquatic invertebrates. The 96 hr LC50 for trivalent
chromium for fathead minnows in hard water was reported as 27 mg/l
and the safe concentration was 1mg/l. A 16% reproductive impairment is
reported for Daphnia in soft water at a concentration of 0.33 mg/l of
trivalent chromium.
Chromium is reported to bioconcentrate in marine organisms. A marine
chromium concentration factor of 1600 is reported in benthic algae, 2,300
in phytoplankton, 1900 in zooplankton, and 400 in molluscan soft parts,
and 70 in fish muscle.
Sinks in water.
