Giving Update
The ministry of SHC is funded entirely by the
generous giving of Gods people. You will
notice that we do not pass the offering plate;
however, there are offering boxes in the back
of the auditorium. We believe from the Word
of God that the Spirit of God will lead people
towards giving back to God of their first fruits.
...God loves a cheerful giver, (2 Cor. 9:7).

Please prayerfully consider what the Lord

would have you do.

THE WORD ON DISPLAY

SERIES
Part 2
Reflecting on the Word
Luke 8:16-21

Presented by
Pastor Justin Greene
September 27, 2015
The opening ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics
in Salt Lake City were an amazing spectacle of sound
and light. A worldwide television audience watched
as thousands of singers, skaters, and other performers
presented a pageant of the American West from its
native inhabitants to the pioneers, the transcontinental
railroad, and beyond.
One of the most captivating aspects of the
celebration was the participation of young performers
called the children of light. First a boy in pioneer
costume skated into the darkened stadium with a
single lantern. He was followed by hundreds of other
children, who carried bright lights and danced on the

ice like stars in the moonlight. In keeping with the

Olympiads theme of Light the Fire Within, these
children of light represented the joy of life and the
worlds bright hope for the future.
The children also awakened echoes of eternity.
In their glory, they were a reflection of Gods promise
in the gospel that people who believe in Jesus Christ
will become children of light (John 12:36 KJV). It was
only a pale reflection, of course, because the
Olympics make a poor substitute for the gospel. But as
they grasped for transcendence, the opening
ceremonies awakened a desire that only Jesus can
satisfy our desire to become the bright and glorious
children of God.
The twin themes of light and children are brought
together in two small episodes that appear side by
side in the Gospel of Luke: a proverb about a lamp
under a jar and a statement Jesus made about
membership in his family. Together these incidents
show that the true children of light are people who do
what Jesus says.1

BEHOLD THE LAWS OF THE LAMP!

Illumination Takes Effort

Illumination Attracts
Illumination Reveals Where You Are
Illumination Reveals Where You Are Going

BEHOLD THE LAW OF BINGO WINGS

Unused muscle will atrophy

BEHOLD THE BONDS OF FAMILY

A family has a father (Gal 4:5-6; Rom 8:14-17)
A family has a bride (2 Cor 11:2; Eph 5:25-27; Rev 19:7-9, Dowry = Eph 1)
A family has children (1 Jn 3:1-2; Gal 4:5-6; Rom 8:14-17)
A family has an inheritance (Eph 1:13-14)
A family is willing to die for each other (Rom 5:6-10)
A family is accountable (Gal 6:1)
A family has reunions (1 Thess 1)
Christ didnt say this flippantly!
