Objective
The objective of this report is to provide the most important information which has been used to
design a gravity flow water supply system in Lasanod Hospital. Practical information and Basic
Design data is drawn from the SDF Lasanod Hospital mission report and consultation with
recommendations from SDF technical team.
1. Population Forecasting
After the design period is fixed, the next step is forecasting the population. Knowing the
proposed population of the hospital from the field survey report, it is possible to determine the
present demand, but for the design, what is required is the demand in future after 20 years.
Method 1. Arithmetic increase method:
In this method, the increase in the population is assumed constant
Pn = Po+Kn
Where
Pn -population at the end of n years
Po -present population
k-yearly increase of population
n-number of years
So, taking present population of Lasanod School 338 person and 5% of yearly increase,
Population of the school after 20 years is equal to;
Using
Arithmetic Increase method with 5% Increase
P2036 = 338+ (0.05*338)20
P2036 = 676 person
Geometric method
Using 5% increase P2026 = P2016(1+5%)^20
P2026 = 338(1+0.05) ^20
P2036= 897 person

3. Determination of distribution Pipe Size

Using Lea formula;
Q design = 0.00056M3/sec.
D = 1.22Q
D = 30 mm But 2 inch is recommended
Diameter of brackish water pipe will be 2 inch pipe, and pure water distribution pipe will be 1
pipe

4. Determination of Total Dynamic Head of Pump and Power

P = wQH,
Where: W = unit weight of water (kg/m3)
Q = rate of flow (m3/s)
H = Total dynamic head (m)
Power required by submersible pump
P = wQH, where H= 4 m, Q=0.00056M3/sec
P = 1000kg/m3*0.00056M3/sec *4m P= 2.24Kw
Power input to the pump, Assume pump efficiency=80%
Pp = P/Efficiency = 3/0.80 = 2.8 Kw
5. Reservoir Capacity
As rule of thumb Assume 60% of maximum daily Demand
Volume of reservoir = 0.60*24.04 = 14.5 m3 = 15m3
