160 Pakistanis on Interpols Wanted List

Thursday, August 02, 2012

LAHORE: The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) is currently hunting down 160 Pakistani nationals, including 12
women, on requests made by the governments of Pakistan, the United States, India, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Canada, Indonesia,
Cayman Islands, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan and Botswana.
The website of the 89-year-old Interpol, the worlds second largest inter-governmental organisation after the United Nations in terms of
membership, reveals that the ages of these alleged Pakistani criminals being chased, range between 19 and 68 years.
Before we move on, it is noteworthy that Interpol gets 59 million Euros annually as contributions from its 186 member countries.
Interestingly, the name of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, the 62-year-old leader of the quasi-political Difa-e-Pakistan Council and the Emir of
the globally renowned Islamic charity Jamaat-ud-Dawah, also features prominently in the Interpols Wanted List.
However, the name of Hafiz Saeed is erroneously mentioned or typed as Sayed Hafiz Saab on the France-based Interpols website.
According to this website, which claims to receive 2.2 million page visits every month on an average, Hafiz Saeed is being sought by
India in crimes such as kidnapping, life and health, terrorism and offences involving use of weapons/explosives with reference to the
November 2008 Mumbai attacks.
According to Interpol, Hafiz Saeed hails from Sargodha and his date of birth is mentioned as 5-6-1950.It is pertinent to note that while
Hafiz Saeeds name was included in Indias widely-publicised list of 50 most wanted fugitives hiding in Pakistan (list released on May 11,
2011) while the United States had announced a bounty of $10 million on him in April 2012 for his alleged role in 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Along with Hafiz Saeed, the name of the 51-year-old Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi is also there on this Interpols Wanted List.Lakhvi is
accused of crimes that are similar to the ones allegedly committed by Hafiz Saeed. On December 3, 2008, India had named him as
one of the four possible major planners behind the November 2008 Mumbai attacks.
He is wanted in India by the Additional Sessions Judge of the Mumbai sessions Court. The Okara-based Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi is
believed by Western and Indian media to be a founding member of the banned LashkarHYPERLINK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lashkare-Taiba-e-HYPERLINK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lashkar-e-Taiba and currently serves as Supreme Commander of operations in
Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the name of the 47-year old Rohullah Khan, the alleged killer of Syed Sardar Ahmed (the then attorney general and a
former judge of Peshawar High court), is also there in the list under review, despite being reportedly arrested in Dubai by Interpol very
recently.
Rohullah, we all know, had managed to flee from the country on July 29 by an Emirates Airline flight through a fake
passport.Interestingly, this list under review still doesnt bear the name of Asad Ali, the investigative reporter of the British tabloid The
Sun, despite reports that the Federal Investigation Agency has written a letter to Interpol for the UK journalists arrest on charges of
falsifying his details and identity while applying for a Pakistani passport.
The FIA has already registered a case against Asad Ali, dubbing him the key accused in the passport scam, which had inflicted enough
damage to countrys reputation around the world on the eve of the on-going Olympics.
Moving on, the name of Ilyas Kashmiri, the 48-year old senior al-Qaeda member and leader of the HarkatHYPERLINK
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harkat-ul-Jihad_al-Islami-HYPERLINK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harkat-ul-Jihad_al-IslamiulHYPERLINK
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harkat-ul-Jihad_al-Islami-Jihad al-HYPERLINK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harkat-ul-Jihad_al-IslamiIslami is
also there in this list.
In August 2010, the US and the United Nations had designated him a terrorist. Eminent American news channel, the NBC News, had
reported that United States officials had mentioned Kashmiri as a possible successor to Osama bin Laden. According to the Interpol
website, Kashmiri is wanted by the United States in terrorism-related offences.
The Interpol list also includes the name of eminent 65-year-old Pakistani business tycoon, Ameen Qasim Dada, who is wanted in fraud
cases by the Special Judge (Central-II), Karachi.
Similarly, yet another magnate Muhammad Rafiq Tawakkal (51-year old) also features in this list. He is wanted in his home country in
fraud, forgery and counterfeiting cases.
Then we have the names of Messrs Rana Maqbool Ahmed (former IG Police Sindh and former Punjab government Prosecutor), former
Ehtesab Bureau Chairman Saif-ur-Rehman and his brother Mujeebur Rehman (former Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman) in this Interpol
list.
The Red Warrants of this trio were issued on September 30, 2008, when Irfan Siddiqui, the Additional District and Sessions Judge
(Karachi South) had ordered the Interior Ministry to seek Interpols help to nab the absconders involved in a case of attempted murder
of President Asif Ali Zardari during his detention in May 1999.
The court had declared the afore-mentioned accused (along with their two other accomplices) as proclaimed offenders under sections 87
and 88 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and had ordered the Interior Ministry to contact Interpol for arrest in this context. Here follow a
few details about the dozen Pakistani women being hunted by the Interpol:
The 52-year-old Islamabad-based Kehkashan Ramzan Khokhar is wanted in life and health fraud, hooliganism and vandalism cases. The
28-year-old Tasleem Gul is wanted by the Venture County, California (United States) on charges of kidnapping. Tasleem originally hails
