ELEMENTARY KIDS & FAMILIES

Date:__________________

This resource is designed to allow your family to have time in Gods Word before
your children attend church. Because Gods plan is for parents to be the primary
spiritual nurturers of their childrens faith, we want YOU to be the one to
introduce this part of The Big God Story to them.
HomeFront Magazine: A Spiritual Parenting Resource This monthly magazine
gives your family ideas for creating fun, spiritually forming times in your home
setting aside sacred space in the midst of your active, everyday lives.

GOD BLESSES
Part of The Big God Story
Genesis 25:1934; 27:141; 28:1022; 32:133:11

JUST FOR FUN

Hold a family thumb-wrestling match. Have two family members face each other,
link hands in a monkey grip, and arrange their hands in a thumbs up position.
Then have each player try to pin the thumb of her opponent. After the match,
read Genesis 32:2628. Talk about how Jacob wrestled with God and how it
resulted in blessing for his life.

YOUNGER KIDS
Your child enjoys hearing your personal faith stories and experiences. Share with
her the ways that God has blessed you throughout your life. Consistently
recognizing the blessings youve been given will encourage her to recognize
Gods blessings in her own life.

OLDER KIDS
Your childs faith is continuing to develop as his cognitive abilities increase. Talk
to your child about areas in his life where he may be wrestling with God, and
encourage him to keep pursuing God even when life feels difficult.

DID YOU KNOW?

Jacob fled his home, afraid of his brother Esau, whom he had tricked out of his
birthright.
Jacob physically wrestled with God, refusing to let go until God blessed him.
God changed Jacobs name to Israel, which means one who strives with
God.
God both blessed and broke Jacob so He could use Jacob for His purposes.

REMEMBER VERSE
Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful
God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who
love him and keep his commandments.
Deuteronomy 7:9

TEACHABLE MOMENTS
After reading Scripture, discuss the following together:
Why do you think Jacob stole Esaus birthright?
How did God bless Jacob?
What are some ways God has blessed you?
