Re: Fw: Pineview data
They are on well water, as are neighboring properties. The fecal hits this last year seem to be under
control, as during 2010 the number of hits was greater. The important issue is that the lower system is
not functioning as a treatment unit, more like a flow-thru pipe. Also, Pineview's noncompliance with the
existing permit is not really the issue. It's the hits of nitrates in the groundwater which violate DW
standards that worries me. Folks down slope of the development, on well water, wouldn't be too pleased
about the situation.....I'm guessing. We can possibly meet tomorrow sometime to discuss further.

Subject: Pineview data for last year
David/Rich:
Attached are two separate spreadsheets which present last year's (2011) monitoring well and
influent/effluent data for the upper (Field B) and lower (Field A) ww systems at Pineview Estates.
You'll notice that the lower system (Field A + the IWS) should be shut-down, as it is non-functional. The
data for this system shows that, in many instances, greater amounts of solids (BOD and SS) and nitrogen
(TN) are leaving the system (and going into the ground) as opposed to coming into the system from the
houses at the site.......this is actually quite incredible! MCL violations for Nitrate and Fecal coliform are
numerous.......for every month sampled, the Nitrate MCL is violated.
The upper system is limping along and does not show the same level of ineffectiveness as the lower
system, although it is far from efficient.....indicated by the "removal efficiency" values.
At some point, this information should be shared with BIA. In addition, it certainly would not be out-of-line
to have the lower system taken off-line. If this were to happen, however, the ww would either have to be
diverted to the upper system or hauled off site via a pumper truck (probably on a daily basis). I'm pretty
sure the upper system would not be able to handle the increased load, and having the ww hauled on a
daily basis won't be popular.....
