In twenty-first century, technology has improved humans lives so much especially
the use of computer which really made life easier. Nonetheless, each coin has two sides, as personal computer is getting popular nowadays; one rising issue is overuse of computer. According to researches done by University of Chicago, over-use of computer will bring a lot of bad effects on peoples health. The harmful effects to peoples health when overusing computer are suffering computerrelated injuries, eyestrain and unhealthy lifestyle. Firstly, one of the negative effects of over-using computer on computer addicts health is computer-related injuries. The common computer-related injuries caused by long time sitting are headaches, shoulder, arm and back pain. Although sitting require less muscular support than standing, they still need to hold parts of their body steady for long period of time which can cause physical fatigue. Muscles and tendons will become painful with awkward postures and repetitive movements. All of these are known as overuse injury and is common among most of the computer users. Other than computer-related injuries, people also strain their eyes when overuse computer. Starring at a computer screen for hours has become part of the modern workday. Inevitably, all of that starring will put a real strain on their eyes. People will suffer from blurred vision and dry red eyes also known as Computer Vision Syndrome. According to Dr. Saland from Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, the average eye is supposed to blink twenty times a minute but people staring at computer screen only six times per minute. This causes eyes to dangerously dry out. Besides computer-related injuries and eye strain, unhealthy lifestyle is another deleterious effect of overusing computer. Computer users who sacrifice their lunch time and sleeping hour will have very worrying health condition. Skipping meal is very harmful as it can cause weakness in our body and all the functioning of stomach disturbed. Besides, lack of sleep also put us at risk for heart disease and diabetes. As a result, both have big impact on health. It is undeniable fact that computer, a marvellous inventions, has improved humans life so much that we couldnt live without it now. However, overusing it will also bring a lot of unwanted effect to eyes, bone-muscular system and even lifestyle. To avoid computer affect our health, we should limit our computer time and only use it when necessary. So let us use computer wisely and do not let it rule our life.
