Abandoned
The day started out just like any other day. The sky is blue just like an ocean. There
are a few patches of clouds hanging up above the sky making it look more peaceful and calm.
The birds are chirping with joy and happiness. People are busy doing their work. Some
workers are carrying their handbags with one hand and holding a cup of coffee with another
while crossing the busy road. Some teenagers are chatting with their friends in a caf with
their cheerful faces. All these things are just like a movie, playing repeatedly. Little did they
know, at that moment, I am standing there, watching them silently. No one notices me

I can feel the wind caressing my face gently. My memories flew back to the night, the
night that put me into this. The sky was very dark as it was rather late. I was sleeping in my
cosy bed which I thought I did before I got to sleep. A sudden scream awakened me. It was a
woman, shouting hysterically. I could not hold the shiver at that moment. The darkness
around me felt unfamiliar. It was too deep, too consuming, too dark. The light which should
be creeping under my door and the steady blue light from the clock on the desk did not
appear. Pitch black. The stretchy blanket and bed made me cringe at the thought that I was
not in my usual bedroom.

Whats happening? My mind kept repeating these words. Beads of sweats were
forming on my forehead even though the air surrounding me was frigidly cold. Fear
conquered me. I could feel my hands trembling uncontrollably. I could not just stay right here
pathetically, waiting for help. I had to leave this place as soon as possible. I quickly made my
move. I threw my legs over the bed and fumbled my way out of this creepy place of nowhere.
My fingers brushed along the rough concrete walls, trying very hard to find a path. I soon
discovered a door knob. I twisted it to open. At that moment, I literally thought that I could
finally escape from this place. I was wrong, totally wrong.

When the door was fully opened, the smell of blood rushed into my nostrils.
Adrenaline surged through my body. My heart was pounding wildly and rapidly. I could hear
someone moaning in pain and murmuring for help. The stream of moonlight filtered through
the curtains giving me a chance to finally observe this place. This place was shoddy. The
compound was strewn with empty cans, tins and broken bottles. Colour drained from my face
as I saw a woman lying on the floor motionless. Blood was splattered everywhere. Oh, God!
What was going on here? I was so scared to even make a move. I panicked and did not know

what to do, but the moaning of the woman kept echoing in the room. I had no choice but to
take a step to the woman.
I had to know her whether she was safe or not. I can do it, I can do it, I kept
convincing myself while approaching the woman. My legs were shaking very hard when I
made my way closer to her. She was pale, blood kept dripping out from her. I held my breath
and slowly put my finger under her nose to check whether she was still breathing or not. Her
moaning suddenly stopped echoing in the room. Please dont There was not a sign of
living. No! I could not hold back my tears anymore. It flowed out freely with sadness,
frustration and despair - all utterly mixed. I was so terrified. I hurled myself up in a corner,
sobbing bitterly and wallowed in self-pity.

Suddenly, a sound of a man laughing mischievously made me shudder. The creepy

voice just came out from nowhere. A strange feeling overwhelmed me. Nothing can describe
the feeling that seemed to tear through my very being. He appeared in front of me in a blink
of an eye. I was at a loss of words. A sudden pain shot through my whole body. I saw the
knife that he was holding before was now stabbed right into my stomach. I was lost for
words. I could see the man still wearing a devilish smile. I made a vain attempt to get up but I
stumbled and fell. Time seemed to freeze at that moment. What I could feel was, I was
surrounded by cold darkness and stale, dusty air. A long time had passed. Minutes stretched
into hours, although it was impossible to know for sure because every second seemed an
eternity. My vision got blurred and my energy was fading away

Now, I am standing here watching the people in the middle of the road but no one
notices me. The sky is emerald blue with patches of clouds. Birds fly gracefully above me.
Everything seems so lively except me. The world is so beautiful yet cruel. I feel agonizing
pain in my heart. It is crying
