TRAINERS PROFILE
Mr. Thomas Tan
Thomas Tan is a Design Consultant/ Trainer with TaF.tc. He is a designer who has extensive experience in the global apparel

manufacturing and retail arena. He started his career working for local retailers, and had been a designer with a renowned
transnational apparel manufacturer, doing cut & sew knits, and have worked with retailers and brands such as Calvin Klein, Macys,
Mervyns, Dockers, Target, JC Penny, Eddie Bauer, Sears, Wal-mart etc. for the past 6 years. He is well attuned to global fashion
trends as travels frequently to USA, fashion cities of Europe and Asia. He also attends major trade shows such as Premiere Vision
in Paris, Intersoff in Hong Kong, Magic in Las Vegas and many others.
Thomas is a designer who is able to translate runway fashion to ready-to-wear and mass production. His close working relationship
with the people from the production floor provides him an excellent understanding on the problems that the pattern makers and the
sample sewers face.
Ms. Doreen Tan
Armed with a Masters in Business Administration, Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, Ms. Tans career has covered three significant
areas in the textile and apparel industry.
She started in the industry in the 1980s as an assistant merchandiser in AMC (todays Target Corporation),, one of the oldest buying offices
for the apparel industry. She has since held several positions with varied responsibilities such as business and market development, global
sourcing, policy and strategy development in the coordination of programs that cross vendors and suppliers in multiple countries. Her last
position held in AMC was Merchandise Director, where she managed a sales volume of US$87 million.
Ms. Tan was also in the academia for 7 years. She was a lecturer in the faculty of Apparel Design & Merchandising, Temasek Polytechnic
in Singapore. She was also the Chairperson of the Temasek Design School Student Internship Program, a member of the Polytechnics
Academic Architecture Contingency Task Force, and Senior Consultant/Lecturer, of the Centre of Design Innovation.
She is now an avid trainer and consultant with Textile and Fashion Industry Training Centre (TaF.tc). She has provided training to
executives in MNCs and local companies in the various segments of the fashion industry, such as Gap International Sourcing Pte Ltd ,
Compagnie Mauricienne de Textile Ltee (Mauritius), Adidas-Solomon International Sourcing Ltd, Nike Sourcing Singapore Pte Ltd, AMC (S)
Pte Ltd, Li & Fung (S) Pte Ltd, ASOP Singapore Private Limited, Ghim Li Holdings Co Pte Ltd, Ocean Sky International Ltd, Sing Lun
Holdings Ltd, Robinson & Co., (Singapore) Pte. Ltd, Club21 (S) Pte Ltd, Gimmil Industrial Pte Ltd, Du Pont Singapore Pte Ltd (Invistas) ,

Doreen is also contracted as an International Consultant with International Trade Centre (UNCTAD/WTO) of United Nations for various
projects in the Textiles and Clothing Industry in Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, El Salvador, Malaysia and India.
Ms. Alicia Lim
Ms Alicia Lim has more than three decades of experience in the apparel manufacturing sector. She was formerly the Senior
Projects Manager for Gap Inc working on corporate projects such as Vendor & Mills Profiles, Costing Tools, Staff Training and
Supply Chain Initiatives. Her previous position was the Division Manager of GAP. She was responsible to run Banana Republic
Sourcing and Alicia had developed the business from 3 product categories to 11 product categories within 5 years, and increased
business volume from US$7 million to US$54 million by 2005. She was also the head of Gap Jakarta QA office that handles an
annual turnover of US$400 million and support staff of 22. Currently, Alicia works as a Trainer and Consultant in both TaFtc and
Fashion Associates & Co. She had trained staff and executives in both the buying offices and apparel factories. Her wealth of
industry experience created an excellent platform for her profile as Trainer and Content Expert.
Ms. Lilian Chan
Lilian Chan has over 3 decades of experience in the garment industry. She has held several management positions in factories
and buying offices. As management staff in buying offices of renown brands such as Eddie Bauer, Banana Republic, Gap, Guess
and Esprit, she has in depth understanding of merchandising and quality requirements among different customers. Having worked
in various divisions of both the factories and buying offices, she is well versed in different categories of products in knits, sweaters
and woven. Her global experience working with garments factories in various parts of Asia and Africa gave her great insights into
the issues that the industry faces
